Let me bump this. I plan on putting Lubbock as my first choice.

Lubbock's my home. I know a couple of fellow paramedics who completed their GN with Excelsior and tested there, then tested and passed for their RN. Only one had a "bad" experience. He is very intelligent, but knowing his personality though, I think he contributed to his own demise. ;-)

The test site should be Covenant's Women and Children's hospital (the "old St. Mary's" hospital). No shortage of pediatric patients, but like the rest of the hospital staff, most folks there are very kind, professional, and want to see those who know their stuff to pass. The Covenant hospital system is faith-based (but doesn't try to pound it in your head)... just mind your P's and Q's. ;-)

As for Lubbock itself, there is a saying: If you don't like the weather, wait a few hours and it'll change. If you're from out of the area, do bring warm and cool clothing to remain comfortable, as west Texas is only separated from the North Pole and Mexico by a barbed wire fence.

Expect wind in the spring and fall... we usually have no shortage of it. If you are flying into the Lubbock airport, it offers pilots the best experience for dealing with crosswinds. In other words, if you get airsick easily, pre-medicate. One of our favorite unofficial (EMS) Cincinatti stroke assessments for verbal asks the patient to repeat, "The wind NEVER blows in Lubbock". You get both the speech assessment and *smile* assessment done at once with the locals.

Population here is over 200,000. Plenty of places to eat, but few places for any worthwhile entertainment.

Overall, I'd guess that you'll have a good experience at Lubbock, based on most opinions I've heard from my coworkers. If you don't have a humble thread in your body, that may not be the case, lol!

Good luck!

You forgot to mention the difference between the high point in Lubbock and the low point is about 4 feet.

Once I get to the CPNE I'll probably try for there myself. It's only a couple of hours away so I would save a bundle on air fare.

My charge nurse is an EC grad 2011...and she tested at Lubbock,TX...she had nothing but high praises for that facility:yeah:...it comes well recommended...she said the nurses there really push for you to pass...so when i get to the end of this journey that is the spot im choosing...just my 2 cents

Very true Belgarion... I live on a "hill" outside of Lubbock, so have to deal with altitude sickness every time I drive into work. That 4 ft of elevation difference is tough. :D

In all seriousness, if anyone is testing in Lubbock and needs some navigational or highly-opinionated advice of the area, feel free to drop me a PM. Remember that our blowing dirt is not all bad: it is both a food group and a form of a redneck facial 'round here.

I hope to get my physical and everything done and get my CPNE app. submitted, and Lubbock is going to be my choice. I am from San Angelo, Tx. and it is the closest drive for me. Thanks for all of the awesome words regarding the Lubbock site. I have only heard good things, and I hope it stays this way. Best of luck to all of you currently on your journey and congrats to those that have finished...So inspiring because that proves that we can do this too.:yeah:
