Chamberlain no longer accepting ANYONE out of state

Just got this from an enrollment adviser @ Chamberlain. Called the school and they confirmed. Bummer.

As of Thursday, May 22nd. We are no longer taking any applications from anyone that lives out of the state of Missouri or Ohio. This is due to a change in our clinical program and us having to be recleared through every state board of nursing in every state. We will not be accepting any applications until we have finalized everything with the State Board of Nursing in each state. Until then we cannot admit anyone who doesn't live in Missouri or Ohio, which is where our campuses are. I just found out about this.

Some are able to go on, others are being asked to either dis-enroll, or come to Missouri or Ohio like once a week which is obviously impossible if you live pretty far away. All these problems lately will definitely make me steer clear of this school whether they get it ironed out or not.

To those of you enrolled in this program - I'm very sorry that this has happened. I know all of you paid lots of money for this program, and that this is going to prolong your nursing education.

TaDaaa! Yep, this is a problem, I have been informed by the school of my options, however none are realistic....still waiting on final word as to $$$$...we shall see....

Ok, I'm going to go back on my post a little.

I had a very long, in depth talk with an enrollment advisor at Chamberlain. Then, I called the Maine BON. Here's the gist-

It is extremely hard for an online nursing program to make big changes in their program, because they have to go through EVERY state BON. Brick and Mortar colleges don't have to do that. So, Chamberlain just changed and improved their program. Therefore, they're having to be re-cleared through every state. I was told that by Spring 08', they should be back to normal.

Maine State BON said that they have had a lot of Chamberlain grads. They consider it a respected program. So I guess... I won't say never. Since I'm applying to schools from Japan, it's going to be tough.. I will most likely use Chamberlain as my fall-back.

Yes, This IS very sad....I unfortunately am 2 weeks away from completing my 3rd semester and just got a call last night that I will have to withdrawl....GRRRR!!!!!!

For those who are considering this program.....please run! I have wasted a year of time and money. This last semester has been brutal and now I will not even be able to finish the courses I am in, with 2 weeks left!!!

It has been a struggle from the beginning with Chamberlain, and I kept giving them the benefit of the doubt.....growing pains and all....but this is just really a big slap in the face to have come this far and now have nothing to show...........

Hoping to make it into a program locally now....we'll see what happens.

Sorry to everyone who is in the same boat as I........

Does this apply to the RN to BSN (online) students also? I just enrolled in Chamberlain online two days ago and the advisor didn't mention any problems with the program.

there is no way this is correct information. chamberlin would only have to answer to the bon in their state. i can tell you 100% sure that texas does not have anything to do with a change of curriculum of a out of state school. i'm not even sure you have to get approval for minor changes. texas will allow you to sit for the nclex if the school you are attending is approved by the state bon. i'm not sure what you mean by brick and mortar school cause chamberlin is not just a online program they have on campus students. someone in that nursing office needs some educating!!!!

I am enrolling in their RN to BSN online program and they sent me the registration packet and it includes the information for the online ASN/ADN program. I will quote some of what it says: " Web-based students may arrange clinical experiences within their geographic region in STATES THAT HAVE APPROVED CHAMBERLAIN." A few pages later it says: " State Board approvals of Chamberlain College of Nursing are necessary in each state in which clinical experiences are completed. Web based studients residing in states that have not yet granted approval to Chamberlain may be required to complete the clinical experiences in another state. Students should contact the National Clinical coordinator for the current state approval status.
