Calling all DCN students accepted for Summer 06!!

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Hello everyone! I know there has to be some more of you who spoke with Michelle at DCN and got acceptance for starting this summer - come on, I know you're out there ;) Anyway, give me a shout. Let's get to know each other early in the program. Hope to hear from you soon!

Hi. I am starting DCN in July 06. I am so excited!!:lol2:

Specializes in Pediatric Critical Care and Adult ER.

DCN in st louis?

Yes, St. Louis, MO online ADN program.

Specializes in Pediatris & PICU.

I sent my application in just past the deadline for this last semester (spring 2006) and so I didn't make it in time, but I had already been accepted to the B&M nursing school here in my town. DCN was just better for me because I could make it work around my schedule instead of having to work so much around theirs. Anyway, I did get a call the other day saying I have been accepted for this summer, but I am already about to finish my first semester here so I won't be going through DCN. I can't wait to hear about how it's going for everyone. I think it's a GREAT idea!!!

I have been accepted to DCN for the Summer 06, but I am having second thoughts. I live in the St. Louis area and I know that you can go to labs on the weekends but it is the online part that makes me a little nervous considering how tough the material can be (so I have heard). I also have heard some people say that the hospitals around here in St. Louis will not hire DCN nurses due to the fact that it is an online program. If anyone can give me some info regarding this and maybe encourage me to go to DCN I would appreciate it.

Angie

Congratulations to all the new DCN students!!

I'm starting my fifth semester with DCN online this summer, and I can tell you all it is NOT an easy road. There will be challenges, and it is a lot of self-paced work. You'll have to be resourceful and make your education your own responsibility (and I know you all will!!) That said..it CAN be done, and you will be amazed at how much you learn when you apply yourself.

DCN has a really great program. And we've all had our difficulties with it, but a lot has been resolved in the last two years, and things are MUCH better now.

This is a good first step, get to know your classmates early and don't be afraid to ask them for help when you don't get something. My classmates and I are really close now, and I know that going through this together - some of us have become lifelong friends. I love going back for validations and seeing all my friends again - and we hug and laugh (and even cry) every time.

You are all welcome to contact me if you need anything. I know how much it helped me to have people further along in the program to ease my fears and answer questions I had. DCN girls are a great bunch. :)

So, congratulations again..and good luck!! You have help if you need it.

Heather

Hi. I was so excited I couldn't stand it for a couple of day...then the reality set in. I am also very nervous, though mostly about locating a clinical site. Have you rec'd your packet yet? I'm still waiting on mine.

I'm not concerned with the "online" part of it. Once you set up a schedule, and stay on track, you'll really like it. Besides, there are the instructors and fellow students on this board to help you navigate things. You'll do fine!

Also, I also read about the hospitals in St. Louis not wanting to hire the online program RN's. Just keep in mind that it was written by one person. Call the HR departments at the hospitals yourself to find out first hand. I wouldn't let one persons comments pursuade my decision. Besides on your nursing degree and/or license is it going to say "ONLINE STUDENT?" I doubt it.

Be positive and be proactive!! I hope you stay.

Dharma,

Thanks for the encouragement! You're almost finished--how exciting!

Hi Nola201,

Thanks for the feedback. I just talked to Kristen from DCN I am starting in July!! I had all of my questions answered and I am so excited. I did receive my packet. I will mail it back tomorrow with my deposit to hold my spot. I am looking forward to meeting and talking to any DCN students.

Thanks

Angie

Specializes in Level III cardiac/telemetry.

Is anybody doing their LPN-ADN program? I'm starting to consider it but am curious how long it takes? I will already have all the sciences and gen ed stuff completed before starting. I'm really wanting BSN, but because of previous bad grades may not be able to get into a BSN program so am now looking at ADN. Please pm me with info.

Thanks!

Congratulations to all of you!!!

I am finishing up my first semester and it has been a real challange. I have learned a great deal. I think that anyone who goes this route to complete their nursing education is very determined and serious about their education. These things will help you reap the awards of you hard work. I will give one piece of advice. Plan on "Being Married" to your Fundamentals of Nursing book during the first semester! You will have to read and know an average of 5 chapters per week to be prepared for your weekly chat with your class. You guys will do great!!!
