Deaconess College of Nursing???
You must not have really kept up to date about the college. Besides the pass rates averages between 98-100% you can attend adn on campus. There is a FREE TUTOR LAB FOR THEORY AND SKILLS! Online students who live local have group clinicals ARRANGED BY THE SCHOOL. Out of town students like myself only have to find a hospital that is interested in precepting and the clinical liason does the rest. Preceptors have constant support and have access to many resource manuals. As far as having a problem with getting questions answered or not doing well with exams. Only so much can be blamed on others. The student is responsible for learning the material. Hence, you will get out of the experience as much as you put into it.:wink2:

Any LPN online courses?
check out http://www.deaconess.edu they have an online lpn and rn program. Clinicals are done either in groups if your are local to st louis area or if you are out of town like me you find a hospital near you who will let you be precepted there. Also, check with your board of nursing to see if you will be able to sit for boards. Certain states have a problem with online learning. The college offers on campus and online programs and is NLN accrediated. Dont let anybody get you down about learning this way either. I know some of the finest nurses who have excellent clinical skills and are in very high positions who received their degrees this way. good luck:nurse:

Calling all DCN students accepted for Summer 06!!
Congratulations to all of you!!! I am finishing up my first semester and it has been a real challange. I have learned a great deal. I think that anyone who goes this route to complete their nursing education is very determined and serious about their education. These things will help you reap the awards of you hard work. I will give one piece of advice. Plan on "Being Married" to your Fundamentals of Nursing book during the first semester! You will have to read and know an average of 5 chapters per week to be prepared for your weekly chat with your class. You guys will do great!!!

frustrated and disappointed
I grew very tired of waiting lists around here. I decided to go an alternate route. I currently attend Deaconess College of Nursing. They offer theroy online and clinicals are conducted at a local healthcare facility. My nursing classes have a mandatory weekly online discussions. At the end of each semester I have to travel to St. Louis for the weekend for practical exams in order to progress. The college is NLN accrediated and approved by the MO BON and the Michigan board of nursing approves of the program as well. Also, if you may have any prereqs left you can take them while you are in the program. I also have the option to sit for nclex-pn boards next year and still continue with the program to complete for RN. check out their website http://www.deaconess.edu

online schools cheapen our profession?
How is attending lecture online any different than sitting in a classroom other than having to be there physically? The assignments are the same, there is a skills lab open and there are clinicals (at least 500hrs+). The art of nursing is a lifelong art. All new nurses will make mistakes, I know plenty of OLD nurses who make mistakes (I have caught plenty). As far as using an etch-a-sketch to paint Rembrandt, a truely committed student with the passion of an artist can turn just about anything into a masterpiece.

online schools cheapen our profession?
Oh my, you have all those years of "collecting" your degrees and this is the best analogy you could come up with? Home Improvement? Maybe you should have picked up a journalism degree along the way and a few economics classes or better a yet stop hiding in school and live in the real world!! This whole world is about money!

online schools cheapen our profession?
FYI Galenite, Not all online nursing schools have a " test out of each class and then do a one time specialty clinical test weekend" My nursing school is real with bricks and morter; it also offers an rn program online, it is accrediated and approved by the NLN and the MI BON. With real cliincal time that goes for hours and hours. My classes online are hard!!!! My instructors seem intense. I am doing these classes on top of campus classes at a community college plus working part time, kids etc. Even though it is very hard it is well worth it. I applaud schools to offer an innovative solution like this to minimize the nursing shortage. I grew very tired of the 2+ yr wait list at all the the nursing programs here in MI. I think the only thing I am missing out on is my butt is not getting numb sitting at a tiny desk during a lecture on campus; instead I am sipping a latte as I take notes while I attend a live lecture online on my wifi laptap at starbucks!

Add/ADHD: disclose or keep to self
I think that disclosing medical information during an employee health physical and drug screen (obviously you need to have a script for the stimulant) is alot different than telling your co-workers about your personal business.

Add/ADHD: disclose or keep to self
I would not disclose, just because there is plenty of ignorance out there with this diagnosis, and any other mental health issue. I am in school to be a nurse and I work part time as an aide at a small hospital and I am shocked to hear how the nurses talk amongst themselves about others and it always seems that they look for ways to hang someone out to dry. :)

Education Question
The only place that I know where you can train for free is a facility in Waterford called Canturberry on the Lake. The training is for two weeks 40hrs per week. After the training is completed you can take your CNA exam. I don't have the phone number but I am sure if you call information you will be able to get it. The street name is Hatchery. Good Luck:wink2:
