  1. has any one mentioned counter pressure- or a neopreen vest? One of muy clients w/ severe burtitus found comfort in it.
  2. A funny story (made short) Baby brother fell upon scrap metal- lacerating knee. -the skin flapped open like a book exposing his knee- Mom (super wonam) grabbed her t and wrapped it. On the war to ER she had him so relaxed! H was 7 yo doing lamaz! LOL The dr said it was his first child he treated who did lamaz breathing techniques.
  3. So I'm on pins and needles! I am so excited this will be my forst birth (well first I have not been the mom) My sister has requested I help he through birth. I have packed alot of things to help through contractions. She seems to be doing very well I've been over acouple times to 'drop in' and go over some methods of relaxation. She has been contracting on and off for a couple weeks- she believes they are intense until the next day her previously intense no longer seems so. Anyhow, I have some things what items do you feel are helpful in pain management? Or othetr helpful tools?
  4. Please wait before deleting this thread- NOT ASKING FOR MEDICAL ADVISE! Just any ideas. They have run a battery of test and I was looking for some inspiration for this mom. -Anything as far as experience that could be of relevance or consolation. She is a first time mom and is lost in the this situation. I understand this site (or any ) is unable to give medical advise nor would I ask you to - I just thoght some of the OB nurses may have encountered simmilar situatuions that may ease her mind or give her an idea as you may understand. The post was her words and I had not taken the time to fully describe my wishes. Sorry
  5. :if anyone can help with support, prayers, or information i would greatly appreciate it! on june 3 we brought our beautiful kayla rose into the world. she was a week overdue and i was induced. i had a shot to kill the pain about an hour before i had her (cannot remember the name of the shot) then about 5 minutes before i started pushing they finally put the epideral in! otherwise i had a very healthy and drug free past full term pregnancy! i only had to push three times, but on the second push i had to breath thru some contractions because they had to suction her because she had some meconium! they then took her right away to the warmer and suctioned her a little more. she turned blue and clamped her jaws together so she couldnt get the oxygen they tried to give her thru the bag. so they finally got her to take it. she had two more episodes after that. they immediatly took her to the nicu! when i went up to see her they had a dome shaped helmet over her head giving her oxygen! she was very tense and very irritable. the nurses said nothing would comfort her. they decided that she was having seizures and the second night at the hospital put her on phenobarbital (an anti seizure med) she is now 11 days old and has not come home from the hospital yet. she has had every test known to man done on her poor little body. she has had a spinal tap, tons of blood drawn, 3 eeg's (fourth one tomorrow), a cat scan, an mri, chest, lung, and heart x-rays and ultrasounds, and shes on a steady level of 50mg of the phenobarbital! every test has come back negative or with nothing wrong (thank god) but they have no idea why this is occuring and our little angel is so sedated that we have only seen her awake a handful of times! shes not bottle feeding because shes too sleepy. she gets 2 ozs thru tube feedings every 3 hours. she has gone from 7lbs 7ozs to 8lbs 4ozs. she is off all her antivirals and antibiotics and all of her vitamin suppl., and she gets her phenobarb thru her formula. this is my second child and my first never had any problems at all! can anyone give me any insight???? we just want our angel better and home with us, but they cant figure out why this is happening! anyone that can share soemthing with me please!!!!!! do!
  6. Not to defend the instructor the dialod she had with you is unexcuseable- however not all Bradley instructors are that insensitive/ or misrepersenting to the nursing profession. My bradley instructor had a very good relationshi[ with the nurses, the midwives and the local hospital. She did also stress the natural- but also informed us of the what ifs and the pros and cons. And trying to find whaty would be best based on the least harm done.
  7. My sister has GD (controlled by diet) she has really done very well with it. Last week weight 'guestimation" was done saying baby weighed 5 lbs. Today thy're thinking more of 5.75# She is due this Saturday- and they are planning to induce this friday. Is it normal to induce becasue of GD even when baby is so small? Does any one have any resourses that will help that I can look through. She is planning to do as much as she can natural - or atleast as long as possible to counter any slowing effects of the medication. I am afraid it they use a induction method the discomfort may be too much for her. Also if there are any medications that are teh lesser of two evils I would appreciate hearing your advise. Thank you I am so excited I will be her birth coach - the only ones I've been at so far are mine. Sunny

  9. Well, I'm sitting here trying to decide WHAT field of nursing I really want to go into... I feel so torn between obsetrics and MR population. I've had such GREAT experiences with both. What inspired you to choose one field over the other?
  10. A couple years ago a bout 6 mo after my second son was born, I had some bleeding also. I had a great Dr! Since I was nursing and didn't have a supply built up so I could toss the milk after the procedure I went drug free. And it wasn't terrible. It was similar to some labor cramps before they get real "serious" - I was able to have my DH there (after we signed a waiver) and that was a great help. It wasn't a very long procedure and I agree that drink is the worst!!! It really made me feel awful- since I had been giving it to the folks I cared for. I wish you the best- Its always better to know than not to!!!! Sunny
  11. Thank You- I'm not sure how far that is. But I'll look into it. I'm by Paw Paw.
  12. I agree there is not a normal day- It is one thing that really makes me love my job! Although I'm not a NURSE (well not yet ) I have worke with adults with DD and profound MR for teh last 7 years... there is nothing better! Every day we have suprises -
  13. Well Jay Hawk I understand "moms" need for control as moms we have to watch over our kids VERY closely! I personally have worked in Michigan with folks with dd, and one of our moms who sits on the states board (and has a nonprofit organization to help folks with dd/mi) assures me this is one of the only states she would let her boy live. She also like Mn- my grandmother lived nest to one of the group homes (rem) and the folks I met were very compassionate and the folks seemed happy. If you are interested I am willing to get more information for you or contact her for you, I also know a few more moms who would give you their opinion as mothers of children(33-62) with dd. May you find a home where Sean and your wife and yourself are at peace with Sunny
