Senior centers try robotic cats to soothe agitated elders

  1. Great idea that I'll share with our health systems LIFE (Living Independence for the Elderly) program and local ALF Memory care unit.

Personally I think they look a little creepy. They remind me of the dog CPR mannequin I practiced on when I took a pet first aid class.

However, whatever works is ok with me.

I have to agree they look a tad creepy. Way back when I worked in a nursing home (before nursing school) there was always a woman who brought in a cat to visit her mom. That cat was quite popular with a lot of the residents on that unit.

While living in a high tech world, one of the greatest gifts and privilage in man kind will always be real affectionate interaction

I didn't find it creepy. I think it would be more enjoyable than an inert 'baby doll' wrapped in a swaddling blanket or towel. I see that a lot in nursing homes everywhere. Only time it might not delight a patient is if they profess to hate cats or are scared by them.

I don't find them creepy either. There are a few people I can see where these would be useful in calming them.
