I work in a small outpatient facility and I feel that my nurse manager has been incredibly unprofessional. She snaps at me, is very rude to me, says things that make me feel really uncomfortable, bad-mouth surgeons, her boss, the place, the company, etc etc, but expects us to never complain or she'll fire us. She is very unhappy in her personal life and brings it with it to work. And also, she was going through my medical records to make sure our TB and Hep B were up to date. She saw that her and I have the same doctor. She confronted me in the hallway to tell me this. Is this completely unprofessional? Could she be fired? I just feel like she violated the HIPAA law. I do not feel comfortable working in this environment.

she shouldnt be working as a nurse should she and she shouldnt be allowed to talk to staff like that if she isn't happy with that job why dosn't she leave and do something else staff shouldn't have to work in fear and feel uncomfortable because of staff like this:angryfire

If you have an HR dept you need to relay to them how she makes you feel. I am not sure about the HIPAA thing as she may "need to know" about the TB, but certainly it was not professional to share anything else with you.

Your last sentence in your post is significant. You can not change her behavior. You can go to her boss and complain about it. Things might change, but you could be putting yourself in the line of fire for doing this. You really should consider finding a new position if you feel this uncomfortable around this person.

Run Forrest, run!

Get the bleep outta there!
