Nurses Criminal

Hi,

I'm looking into Nursing school, well a program at one of the community colleges offers a LPN course. The only problem is I have a conviction from Two years ago for Bad Check Larceny

I'm worried since it's considered a Moral turpitude that I'll be barred from getting a license.

The school keeps telling me everything will be fine, but they also will say anything to get my money and I don't want to go through all the schooling to be told no, even if I do deserve it.

My state is VA, I cannot get anything expunged and I'd have to wait 10 years for a pardon which is very unlikely to receive :/

Any Advice would be great.

and if you need please message me privately for more information just ask me for my email, I don't want to post to much because it was a terrible crime. It was a temporary fix and if I had known this was going to happen I never would have done it.

The best place to get information would be directly from your state BON. They can provide the most definitive info rather than the conjecture that could be provided here. Definitely a wise move to consider this before paying for school. Best of luck!

I did and all the did was email me a copy of a pdf about criminal convictions, which pretty much said it wouldn't necessarily bar me but it also said I might not be able to obtain the license :/

When I went to nursing school the program told us straight up that anything asides from a minor traffic violation had to be reported on our applications. I had a friend who wrote a bad check (it was her account) and another had been caught in his car doing something inappropriate and was charged and pled guilty. The school wrote letters of recommendation to the state board for them. They both got to test and are licensed today. From what I understand from reading on my state's website is that the list that they show is what is current and because their rules can change at any time regarding who can test depending on what the conviction is, they cannot say for sure if you will be allowed until after you apply and your documents are reviewed. Hopefully someone will have a similar experience that could help answer your question and the likelihood of being able to pursue a career in nursing.

It's a shame that the only way to get a concrete answer is to go through with the whole program, pass it, and then wait and see if you can do anything with your education after your application is processed, but this is unfortunately how it works right now.

I applied in AZ with a 15 y/o felony charge the was pleaded to a misdemeanor. My school made me jump through a few extra hoops, and the bon took a little extra time reviewing my app after passing the nclex (two weeks). I'm an rn. That said if you look at the states registering laws, and you don't qualify, you will not get licensed. So pick through your stars laws with a fine toothed comb
