may be anyone had simular situation, please- help!!!!!

by gorsneg

I recieved a letter from Board that I passed exam with 75 questions... HURRAY!!!!
BUT...because of my criminal record (stupid misdeminor at 1995 and DUI at 1997) both expunged and sealed -I don't have anything "bad" since...they evaluating my status..
In a letter some Inforsement Tech writes that Board is evaluating my criminal record and will let me know about status of my application... Month already passed since I recieved this letter. There is a tel number and -"I can call if any questions"..-I called number of times and only got a message, never actual person-and never my messages were answered...Before I started school I tallked to Board about my "criminality" and was given pretty clear impression that I will be able to obtain lisence....and now...I don't know what to think? May be someone have simular situation? How long Board will evaluate? can this two stupid mistakes so long ago coast me my carier?
Please..!!!!...share if you know anything...I am worring my head off. I was waiting for exam results for a month and now I am not sure of what is going on, Why they not answer my calls?..What is a usial process of evaluation?

Have you checked the RN status list on the BON website. What does it say? Active? Inactive?......

I thought the board will have to evalulate your application before they issue you ATT. So I don't understand why they let you take NCLEX and now telling you they have to evaluate your criminal record. I guess maybe its procedure is different from state to state. One of my classmates had DUI and he had to write and explain details of what happened and get it notarized and send it with his application. My friend had misdeminor and she also had to do the same thing. It took about a month and half for the board to clear their application. They both passed their NCLEX and RN now.

I did write my explanations. With DUI- I wasn't actually driving, police picked me up, becase I was calling on the phone and -admitting-guilty-was sipping some wine, and I was staying close to my car, key in ingnition. Becase, there was some hit and run in the area, police arrest me to figure if it might be me. And they did charged me with drunk driving. I had an appointed atterney and asked him to prepare a trale-(plea of not guilty) Now I understand, that if you don't pay your atterney cash-he doesn't give a **** about you and your situation. Besides, I am from different country (Russia), at that time I didn't speak English well and didn't understand and knew a lot of things-so this is why my atterney was able to talk me in pleing non contest-explainig that it's the same as non guilty, and that it will save me time and money,(he didn't want to go to trail)-I learn my lesson NOW-don't allow anyone make decisions for youself, unless you completely sure of what you doing...

Questions we seem to be encountering more and more often have to do with the effects of a criminal history on nursing licensure:
Is it possible to become licensed as a nurse if you have a criminal history?
Is it possible to become licensed as a nurse if you have a MIP, DUI, or other related charges?
What happens if you are charged or convicted of a crime after licensure?
Can I go to nursing school and/or be licensed if my record has been sealed or expunged?
Will I be able to go to nursing school with a criminal record?
What can happen if I receive a MIP/DUI/DWI or other charge while still in school?

These are questions that the members of allnurses.com cannot answer. The only reliable source of information is your State Board of Nursing.

We just can not predict how long and what will happen as each case is dealt with individually
