So I committed some serious crime that some of you might want to burn me to death. I was 24 when I got arrested. I was on craiglist looking for sex. I was chatting with a girl posting as a 30 years old. We both made it clear that we were seeking a sexual relationship. But then she told me that she was only 15. I still decided to meet her despite she told me she was a minor. I got arrested and charged with a long list of felony sex crimes against minor. Long story short, all charges were dropped, except one count of "Unlawful use of 2 way communication." which is not a sex crime or crime against minor. However it's still a 3rd degree felony. I pleaded guilty and adjudication was "withheld" meaning no convictions. Fast forward 2 years later, I'm done with all my probation... I'm currently in the process of sealing my record.

As far as I know, legally I'm not convicted of anything and once the record is sealed I'm allowed by law to deny I even got arrested.

I know sex crime is an automatic denial but I did not end up with any sex crime. Does it matter at all?

Do you guys think that I even have any chance for NURSING license?

Anybody has been granted license with a felony???

You found out she was 15 and still pursued sex? No, you should NEVER be a nurse. You should be in jail.

Megan's Law. The BoN can google too. I'd suggest seeking an alternate career pathway since you willingly moved forward with the sexual rendezvous knowing you were meeting a minor child it will be discovered based upon arrest records.

There are so many things wrong with this. No. You should never be entrusted with any care of patients. You had one heck of a lawyer and no way should that ever be sealed.

I agree with the others. You need to choose a career where you are not entrusted with care of vulnerable individuals. You have proven that you cannot be trusted.

No way that the charges should have been dropped or the record sealed. You weren't a silly teenager at the time.

Actually, It was the prosecutor who made the decision of filing or dropping charges. Please understand, all the sexual charges were dropped as an "charges never officially filed". A lot of factor such as pictures they sent me was in fact a 29 years old who looked way older than I am. However, I am a guy with weakness, desperations and ignorance to the law, I went to meet her regardless of what she told me. I took full responsibility for it.

Surprisingly, at sentencing, the judge did not convict me, gave me 2 years probation which I finished in a year. This gave me the ability to seal my record today. The court has given me a second chance in life and I wanted to take advantage of it by becoming a RN. I currently have 3.5 overallgpa and 3.7 sci gpa. I love science.

ps. If it makes you feel any better. The majority of guys went to prison and registered as sex offender for the rest of their lives.

I agree, and really, there isn't even any great need to judge you. Some people are NOT cut out for a career in the health professions, and a felony conviction is not always a 'reason' you aren't cut out for it. A nurse needs to have a particular kind of temperament to be successful and safe. A sexually impulsive person has a particular kind of temperament, there are other impulsive things you struggle with too. Whatever they are, this temperament is going to get into trouble in nursing. It is likely that you will fail no matter how hard you study, or how clean your record becomes. Sexual impulsivity is usually a life long issue, and nurses have EVERY opportunity to get triggered and tempted if they have that tendency.

Out of respect for people in general, avoid working with vulnerable people, period. If this offends you at all, then I underline what I wrote ten times.

A person with your set of issues and convictions should avoid healthcare, counseling, and teaching. This is just a matter of simple honesty with yourself and concern for the welfare of others.

I guess this is good news??. So according to page 7 "The security background investigations under this section must ensure that no persons subject to the provisions ofthis section have been arrested for and are awaiting final disposition of, have been found guilty of, regardless of

adjudication, or entered a plea of nolo contendere or guilty to, or have been adjudicated delinquent and the record has not been sealed or expunged for, any offense prohibited under any of the following provisions..."

I will have my record sealed way before I apply for nursing license. And the charge I plea guilty to is not on this list.

All the "advice" you have received thus far from previous posters on this site, have been saying nursing is not the best career path for you.

I agree that you should look into other career's. Just because you dodged a bullet and only received a slap on the hand. It doesn't change the fact of what your intentions were. You demonstrated very poor judgement. Nursing is a very high stress job. The probability of you making another poor decision, due to stress, is likely.

Nursing is a very high stress job. I would be concerned that you would make another bad decision due to stress. Just because you got very lucky and basically received no punishment, this does not mean that nursing is the career path for you.

I'm not offended, I'm just sad that people like you have this irrational fear about how sex offenders somehow suddenly go on a rape rampant any second or cannot be rehabilitated...etc when in fact sexual offense has the least reoffend rate out of ALL crimes. People can change.

Regardless, I'm not even a sexual offender, "innocent till proven guilty" right?

Isn't nursing all about non-judgmental and forgiving regardless. Because someday as a nurse, you will have to take care of patients who might be a sex offender, murder, drug addicts...etc YES, hospitals WILL take sex offenders as a PATIENT. Sorry to bear the bad news to you.

Anyways, If the court, prosecutor, judge did not deem me as dangerous to society, and gave me a second chance, why shouldn't you or the BON?

I was just trying to find out if i am barred from becoming a nurse LEGALLY. Which I am not after all the research (only charges ended with guilty plea matter). That's not to say that BON will grant me license. But I will not give up.
