Stuck in a rut..

Hi all! Kind of stuck in a complicated situation of sorts..Any advice is highly appreciated.

(new grad btw)

Anyway, I am a new hire at a SNF facility with 3 days in orientation. Earlier this month I had applied to a new grad program at a hospital not thinking I had ever a chance of getting a phone call and guess what?? Today they called me for a panel interview..and it is coming up soon....:o

So heres the deal.. when I interview for the hospital should I let them know I am already hired at a SNF? Even though I'm on the third day of training?? And if I do end up hired at my dream hospital how was the resignation process from your old job?

Congrats on the job. That is a tough one. Im a new nurse grad myself and have been applying for positions the last few months. All have been at hospitals and have been debating on joining the SNF world. I had the same fear you are currently experiencing so I look forward to reading other's replies. If you do get the new job at the new hospital I am sure the SNF hiring manager would understand. Most new grads don't generally want to work in a SNF. It's an unfortunate truth. If they ask you about current employment I wouldn't lie but you have to find the best way to phrase it. Be honest with the manager at the SNF and tell them how much you appreciated them giving you a chance but that another opportunity is available. Be professional as you never know who they know and you never know when you may need another job down the line. Good luck!

No way, don't tell them you're working. If you tell them you're hired somewhere else and will quit just a few days in, they'll assume you have no loyalty (not that I believe anyone should these days, TPTB won't increase pay or improve working conditions unless it's hard to hire and retain people). They want to hire someone who will spend years with them, so let them think you will.

NO DON'T tell them, because you are going to screw your new employer. If you tell the potential new employer you are going to do this to your current work place, they will make the assumption you may do it to them too.

Just keep quiet about the current job!!

If I were in your position, I wouldn't mention it. If you should be fortunate enough to get a job offer from the hospital, make sure you have it in writing before you leave the SNF.

I got told as an excuse for not giving me work one time that they thought I was working with another employer. BS!!! I asked, "Where did you get that impression?" Never give them a reason to pass on hiring you because they think you already have a job and can use that as an excuse to stop considering you. You would not be attending the interview or otherwise continuing with the hiring process if you did not want to work for the prospective employer.

Since it has been more than a month since the OP, I hope you got the hospital job, or are happy in the SNF job.

I know I'm late about posting...but lying about currently being employed can bite you in the butt. I had a friend that kept her current job a secret and the HR department found out anyway once they did the background check. Then they can rescind your offer if you get that far.
