Strange Interview

I had an interview Friday for a LPN position at a ALF. It was basically a "How are you, how soon can you start" interview. No typical interview questions at all. I was a bit freaked out because I had really prepared for it.

10 minutes in and the ADON said I had the job unless I failed the background check. Then she took me on a brief tour and walked me to the door saying she would talk to me soon. Total time I was in the facility was 20 minutes!

No reflection on you, I'd say this is a place that isn't too particular who they hire.

I'm sure you presented well, but an employer really needs to ensure the candidate is a good fit.

whats your impression of the place? Do you think you'd like working there? Any other hot prospects on the horizon?

It seemed like an OK place...generally clean and presentable, no weird smells or really anything out of the ordinary. In all honesty it was hard to make a proper evaluation in the 20 minutes I was there because I spent most of it internally freaking out :bag:. The main selling point to this place for me is the proximity to my house (10 minutes!). After years of commuting 1 hour or more, a 10 minute commute seems like heaven. However, I'm not afraid of long commutes so that won't be the only deciding factor.

I do have 2 other interviews this week so we will see.

I'm just wondering if they have a high turnover, if maybe that's why they didn't seem picky- again, no reflection on you. It is very nice to work close to home. Good luck!

That thought crossed my mind. I also wondered if maybe the ADON had a crisis or something she was dealing with hence the hurried interview.

I really wish I knew someone who worked there so I could get the inside details.

I wanted to update this...the ADON called me after the background check came back clean. She apologized to me for her demeanor at the interview and said she had been dealing with a crisis. I did not expect this at all so it was quite a surprise.

I went back yesterday to do paperwork and I got a more in depth tour and was able to talk to more employees. It seems like a typical facility and there are staffing issues. The ADON did say I was replacing another new grad who is leaving after her magical one year of experience. The employees I talked to said it was an OK place to work. Each nurse gets about 30-36 residents. Although I was called in to interview for a position in assisted living, I actually got hired to work in the skilled nursing/long term care units.

I am now a newly minted but employed LPN. Orientation begins Monday.
