still no word

Nurses Job Hunt

Well, it's been a week and a day now since my interview and not a word. :( I emailed the NM today asking for an update on the status with no reply. My status online hasn't changed since before I interviewed. I want to think that I still have a shot, but the fact that my follow up email requesting the status wasn't returned has me convinced I'm out. Why would you leave a top contender in the dark? Hospitals I have applied to before when I didn't get the job after the interview, I received rejection notice sooner. Any thoughts appreciated. This is getting harder and harder. :down:

A week is not a long time, at all.... And, depending on where you are in New England, remember it WAS a holiday on Monday for 2/6 states.

With any job, I've never been notified that I was rejected for the position. I just figured I didn't get it after not hearing back from the hiring manager for a month. It's a really nasty way to leave somebody you interview with, but that's been the trend in nursing and in the non-medical world. Keep applying and keep your head up!

WannaB, I haven't had that impression thus far...but I agree this is becoming more common. It's just so frustrating. I can get over it if I didn't get it, but please just tell me. In the interview, I was given a timeline and today was the day that a decision was supposed to be made by. I emailed in the afternoon with no response. It just made me cry. :cry:I know I could be jumping to conclusions but if I were still of interest I just don't see the email being ignored. I think what's so frustrating is it felt monumental just to get the interview. I probably have submitted at least 60 hospital applications.

Friday afternoon is a busy time in the hospital. The Nurse Manager does other things than respond to emails about open positions. I don't always have time to respond to every email that I need to respond to by the end of the day.

Waiting for a response is always the hardest. Maybe it's dealt with via HR. In the past, I had received rejection letters by email and when I was offered a position, it was HR who contacted me by phone. Try contacting HR about the status of the position.

I would certainly be elated if this were the case. I just thought since today was the stated decision timeline deadline, I would be replied to/notified of status. Also, the job posting has been down since Wednesday. Would they take the posting down without notifying the chosen candidate?

iPink, I haven't heard anything either way. I have checked my status online every day and nothing has changed. When you were rejected, how long did the email(s) take after the interview? One hospital interview I went to about two years ago, I received a rejection before I got home. (And I didn't think I bombed the interview at all...I think they already had their candidate.) Contacting HR may be my next step, if I don't drive myself crazy first.

It took a few days to get the rejection email but it also too a few days to get an offer. It doesn't hurt to contact HR regarding if the position has been filled or not.

Another thing to consider is that, in most hospitals, a job offer would come from HR anyway, not the Nurse Manager. So perhaps the NM had to refer your follow-up email to HR.

Kel, I contacted HR and was told that it is the manager who notifies. So far my email from Friday was never answered, so I called today and left a the NM a voicemail...asking for update regarding decision timeframe. And I'm stopping there. HR said as far as she knows the position hasn't been filled.
