Question about hiring process into hospital

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Hello all, I am a new grad, graduated NS in april, passed NCLEX in May. Ive had a couple of interviews since then but the one yesterday is the one I have a question about. I met with the nurse managers and it went very well. They seemed pleased with my responses, etc. They mentioned they liked my vibe and that I would fit in nicely. One of the nurses then asked the other to gather up some nurses so that I could have the peer interview. That went very well, they told me they liked me and, again, thought I would fit in with their team. At the end of that, the one nurse manager came back in and told me that I was highly qualified. I asked her what the next step is and she stated that she was calling HR and they should be calling me in 3-4 days. She also gave me her card and told me if I haven't heard from HR in 3-4 days to call her back and she would call them again. I know from the posts I have read on here that you don't have a job until you receive and accept an offer from HR, but does it sound like I'm in good shape? I have a squeaky clean record, references, drug-free, etc...I know I should just relax and hope for the best but I always like to prepare for worst case scenarios. What do you all think?

Definitely give it the 3-4 days, and if you don't hear anything, call the manager like she stated. Sounds like you have the job, but stay on too of the situation and stay focused. Still send thank-yous to the manager, staff, and HR. Best of luck! Update when you get the call! :)

I will definitely update. I sent the thank you's...today is day 2 and no call yet. I think I wil call the mgr on monday afternoon if still no call...Thank you.

This is the eternal frustration - nursing managers are never happy with the sloooooooowwww HR processes. There are so many different tasks that HR has to do and some, such as background checks, may take a while. Try to be patient with them.

Sounds like you have a really good shot at this - thinking good thoughts for you.

Ok, so I called the nurse manager today and the plot thickens. She said that the issue is that their director's last day of work was last friday which was two days after my interview. Well, the nurse manager explains that the "evaluations" (which I am guessing is her and the peer interview evals) are on this woman's desk.-The woman now a-no longer works there and to make matters worse b- is out of town. She said to be patient and call her as often as I like but we have to be patient now since we have to go through the "beaurocracy". She also told me (which I knew) that she does not have the authority to make me an offer it has to come from hr...is this really bad news or am I just a really negative Nelly..?

Although it still sounds like you have the job, you don't until the offer comes. Be as patient as possible, and wait and see. Still apply to other listings and interview other places.. Hopefully you will hear back in the mean time. Don't stop searching just incase you don't get the job (even tho it sounds like you still have it!)

As a Manager, my experience is it takes 3 weeks to get job offer made by HR on average. Toss in fact that no director to sign off on interviews, could be 3 months due bureaucracy. Hang in there, email/ every 2-3 weeks to followup is my advice if no contact from HR.
