Nurses Job Hunt

Published

first off, i am new to this board and not sure where to file this topic, so please feel free to move it appropriately. this may be a bit lengthy so please bear with me.....

i am a new grad nurse currently working as a nurse assistant for a hospital. i was denied one job with my current employer but am up for another, and am about 90% certain they will make an official job offer on monday with the expectation to start orientation the NEXT DAY (tuesday).

however, to complicate matters, i have been talking and interviewing with another hospital for quite some time now, and finally got a call to interview with the managers there. i mentioned to the recruiter on the phone that the interview needed to be completed quickly and briefly explained my situation above.

now, my dilemma is this: when interviewing with this other hospital, should i mention that i have another job offer? under normal circumstances, i would not mention it, but due to the condensed time frame of my current employer, i feel that if i am seriously considering another job i need to mention it to the manager. at the same time, i do not want to come off as pushy or as playing hard ball. based on the timeline, this other manager would have to make an offer the same day.

i feel backed in to a corner to take the position at my current employer, but also feel the decision is rushed in some ways. i dont want to burn any bridges in this whole process either. any and all help is greatly appreciated!

I think you're fine. You were honest and that's good.

if you take the job at your current employer but get offered the other job later on and you like that job better, who says you can't leave the job at your current employer? it doesn't have to be one or the other.
