Need Advice About Interview Question

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

I need advice.. I have been lucky to get an interview for a job as a school nurse. I have been an ICU for 21 years, I have been at my current position for the last 9 years. I am trying to come up with a good answer when asked why I want to switch specialities. I am burned out as a critical care nurse... What is the professional way to say this? Since I haven't interviewed in over 9 years, I don't know what to expect and am so nervous!!

Besides the burnout, there is something that led you to apply for a school nurse position as opposed to other facilities. What are some things you will enjoy about school nursing vs. critical care. Think of the pro's of school nursing and you can compose your answer! Good luck!

You can say that after 21 years of taking care of really sick children you are looking foreward to taking care of basically healthy kids and watching and helping them grow up into healthy young adults. If they ask "aren't you going to be bored" tell them you are looking forward to such boredom and having the time to talk with the kids, getting to know them, and help them out with their helath problems.
