I have an interview. Help!!!!

I've been a NICU nurse for 3 years now and I recently applied for a Lactation Specialist position.

I have an interview on Wednesday and I'm so nervous it's rediculous! It's not that I don't know what the position is about. The position is open for working in the NICU so that helps a lot.

I'm just so worried about making a fool of myself and stubling.

Any advice?

Our lactation consultant meets with new Moms who have questions about breastfeeding. We do childbirth education classes before delivery, and this nurse has a presentation for that. She has developed policies on what to teach when she is not there and other topics regarding breastfeeding. We have a New Mommy hotline 24/7. The consultant developed strategies for safely using this hotline. She teaches STABLE and PALS and NRP and determines what formula we have in the nursery for bottle-fed babies. Sometimes ladies see her ante-partum for breast issues (based on MD consult). So there is a lot she is involved in doing. And this is just what I know about.

If the hospital has a NICU, then you will be working heavily with women have various breastfeeding challenges, such as exclusively pumping, supply issues, how to get an infant to take the breast after having been NG fed for many weeks or months, etc.

I would also suggest familiarizing yourself with the various pathways to obtain the "gold standard" certification of IBCLC. Come to the interview with a concrete plan and timeline for how/when you plan to obtain your certification.
