CABON Now Requires SSN to apply for NCLEX.

Effective on April 26, 2010 California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) will no longer accept applications that do not contain a U.S. Social Security Number. The Nursing Practice Act provides for a unified examination and licensing application. Once an applicant passes the examination, a license is automatically issued. Under these circumstances the BRN cannot accept applications for the examination and licensure without a U.S. social security number.

For those applicants who have failed the exam and want to re-apply; CABON will not accept re-application without U.S Social Security Number.

If your application was sent prior to April 26, 2010 or if you are already eligible, THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO YOU.

that info about ssn requirement is accurate.

According to my conversation with persons at California BRN the enforcement date is April 26, 2010.

The policy HAS ALWAYS BEEN IN EXISTANCE, however the BRN was making exceptions by allowing foreign RNs apply and just hold the license. They will no longer be making exceptions.

I had the same question about date, I already asked it and got the information for you. :)

This applies to all new applications, Endorsement, renewal or extensions.

I'll inform you more as I continue to get information.

This creates a series of problems for foreign nurses as one cannot get an SSN without a visa and one cannot get a work visa without employee sponsorship which nurses would not get if they are not NCLEX passers.

These sorts of radical changes at a moment's notice are precisely why so many nurses outside the USA seek professional NCLEX application services.

hi. in my case, my nclex exam will expire this october and i was told by ca bon that they will no longer extend the validity of my exam. what do i do now?

Your best bet would be to endorse to another state. Not all states will accept without a physical license so you'll need to be sure.

Do you have family in the USA that you plan on moving in with once you get there? Do you have an employer? You should look for states that are going to fit your final goals, not short-term ones.

There are professional centers which can help you with this process through consultancy if you feel overwhelmed. it is hard to put all the information into a few blog entries, especially since requirements from the boards of nursing can change rapidly.

early morning bad news. i was about to send my application this week.

Better to find out now than to get the application rejected after paying for the fees.

I believe a federal employer identification number can also be provided, because it said in the regulation "federal employer identification number or ssn"....

What is the link to the source of the long memo? Because the one on the Ca BRN site is only a 1-page article stating something about not accepting applications without SSN. Where can I officially find the long one where it states "one DOES NOT HAVE to retake, even if the file is abandoned/destroyed because the nclex result is still valid." Where is this one at?

Did you read post 4?

Plus we have had a couple of members post that they have received letters stating they can not resit NCLEX without providing a SSN and you can find their posts on the International forum

i passed my NCLEX-RN Exam Sept.last year. I hope CA BON will give us our license even if we have no SSN yet ....transferring it to another state is so expensive:eek:...CA BON pls do not destroy our NCLEX RN results...have mercy on our pockets...:sniff:

Do you guys think it is possible...i am thinking of sending them an email regarding this..i know i am not alone in this one...:pntlft:

CA will destroy your file if a SSN is not produced or you haven't requested an extension. Sending a email I doubt will make much difference. They have become even more strict now and will not accept any applications without SSN so they may decide not to give extensions. It may be expensive moving results by applying to a new state but surely that is better than loosing it and having to start all over again including having to resit NCLEX

Nothing is impossible but it's their rules and you must follow. As they always say "If you don't want the system, get out of that system".

I sent my reapplication before April 26 and was denied to take the exam. Was reading the thread and someone mentioned that this changes is not something new that they have enforced, and is already an existing policy and they're just being compliant now. What the ***** is that! So what's the point of opening centers in other countries to take the nclex! The passing rate has been increased and now I'm no longer eligible to take the exam. I know that there are still other states but why can't there be one rule for all states, does California intend to become a country of it's own! Geesh!!!!
