"Actually, it's not necessary for a nurse to be a graduate of BSN. Because these nurses, they only want to be "room nurses." Like in America or other countries they are just like caregivers. THEY DON'T NEED TO BE THAT COMPETENT."

She obviously doesn't know what she's talking about, it shows on how she used her own words to describe a nurse's work, "room nurse."

What I can't and will never accept is when she said "they don't need to be that competent." Either we work in our home country or abroad, whatever our nationality, every nurse, LVN, LPN or RN, should and must be competent.

It's enraging to know that someone, and a senatorial candidate at that, looks at us Pinoy nurses this way.

Excuse me Ms. Villar, but I earned my BSN degree, passed the Philippine NLE, fought my way through a lot of hospitals to earn spots on trainings and eventually got employed, respected professionally by my colleagues superiors and ultimately, our patients. And now I'm settled abroad, it's all because I am doing my best as an RN, and not throw everything I worked hard for out of the window.

She doesn't have the right to seat on the senate. Working as a nurse is way exceptional, we work for our degree, work to be competent and work for our patient to save lives. As we enter our profession we faced the risk and engage to the hazardous work. To you camella owner, I dont think you are competent to serve our country with this kind of mentality. I should just vote those people who knows the reality of our country than just wasting for you. You dont know what's happening to our nurses! shame on you!

I despise her remarks against us, Filipino Nurses. She did not only insult the Filipino Nurses per se but also their families and dependents who rely from their toil and hard labor to put bread on their tables, not to mention countless parents, siblings and relatives who work strenuously to the point of literally breaking their back just to send thousands of aspiring nurses to a reputable nursing school and earn a degree. Her statements just showed how little she regards the Filipino Nurses and a wrong perception about what "our profession" truly means.

I earned my BSN degree literally with blood & sweat through a full academic scholarship grant from the local government from admission to graduation and keeping at par with the standards and requirements wasn't really easy. For her to say that nurses need not to be really good insults me more thinking that I have always maintained a high standard not just in the academe but also in the practice of the nursing profession. A standard I have buried deep in my heart knowing that more than just pursuing a greener pasture abroad in the future, nursing is surely a caring profession and we not just work simply to earn but also mold our patients' lives every time we interact with them and perform our independent nursing interventions that we worked really hard to be licensed for.

Way to go Mrs. Villar! What a good way to start your career in the Senate. Given the current scenario in our country- the nursing boom & underemployment and unemployment of registered nurses, giving her a slot in the senate would absolutely make matters worse for us. I hope this serves as a stern warning about any other politicians who might commit this same grievous act against the most exploited, abused and misrepresented people of your country.

Sincerely,

a Filipino Registered Nurse.

I will try to be diplomatic but you can read between the lines.

I am very saddened that Mrs. Villar is "uninformed."
