Undregrad from Canada, applying to US for MSN

Hi All,

Does anyone know if your undergraduate transcript from a Canadian U is accepted at par when you apply to US grad schools or do you need to get it evaluated through one of those services? Husband just got a job in US so we will be moving there soon and I am trying to figure our how my transcript will rank in the US.

That question can only be accurately answered by the university you plan to attend. There are simply too many variables to consider.

Hi Jan,

Thanks for your reply. I was asking if anyone had a similar experience.

Some colleges and universities will accept your classes and some won't. Each has its rules on what is transferrable and what is not.

Bottom line....its up to the college/university that you apply to.

Also, be aware that you may have to pay out of state tuition.

Actually, you didn't.

"Does anyone know if your undergraduate transcript from a Canadian U is accepted at par when you apply to US grad schools"- as in "has anyone does this"?

I apologize if the post wasn't clear but I don't see how your last reply was helpful. English is not my first language and sometimes I may not be entirely clear but I certainly didn't expect a dismissive comment like yours from a fellow Canadian.

With some schools they will accept your Canadian education at par. I applied to schools to do my Master's online, University of Pheonix, is expensive but they accept your Canadian degree. The only reason why i did not follow through is that CNO will reevaluate the transcripts and may or may not accept it. So you have to decide where you want to practice and what master's program you want to take if taking a NP program CNO may not accept. Good luck.

If that's the case, then you may want to speak with someone at the College of Nurses first, in the Province(s) you wish to practise. There is absolutely no sense spending time and money for an expensive Masters program if the degree is not recognized later on.

Thank you both agiboma and joanna73, for taking the time to respond so patiently to my question. I think I will need to do a lot more research on this!

Thank you

You're welcome. I know of people who have successfully transitioned to a US Masters with a Canadian undergrad, however, you will definitely need to do some research. Good luck with your studies.

Thanks Joanna...reseraching away :)
