RPN/LPN in Ontario trying to move to BC

You need to apply to the college of nurses for a license.Tthey will determine if you meet their requirements for a license. Are you aware of the poor job outlook in BC?

Also be aware that an RPN is BC is a registered psychiatric nurse and that you are dealing with the correct nursing College.

@fiona59, I know that RPN in BC and AB is called psychiatric nurse, that's why i wrote RPN/LPN. but thanks.

@loriangel14, i have a friend there in vancouver. she told me i could work in victoria island. there are many nursing homes there. here in ontario, i have been interviewed 3 times, but the job isn't for me. still working my butt off in applying all over ontario.

It's Vancouver Island, not Victoria Island. The island is a hard place to find work (I know because I once lived there). There are at least two degree programmes and two PN programmes churning out new grads there. A coworker moved there last year and as an RN took over six months to land a casual job.

Yes, there are many nursing homes there, not all pay union rates. Hospitals, nursing homes, agencies on the Island tend to hire locals before outsiders.

It is also very expensive to live on the Island and it's not cost effective to ferry back and forth on a daily basis to the mainland for a job.

And unless your friend is the person doing the hiring, all you've got is conjecture. There are many nursing homes in the Victoria area on Vancouver Island, given Victoria's popularity with retirees. But that doesn't mean they're hiring. Generally speaking, places that have (and fill) vacancies in this economy are places where no one wants to work.

I've met RNS and LPNS working in AB from BC that have said the market is terrible all over the Province. What you're finding in ON is the same everywhere else in Canada.

You can try small towns which are often hiring, but the cities are saturated with applicants and few jobs. Don't move without a firm offer.

Is your friend guaranteeing you a job? Changing provinces is a lot of work when the job market is shaky. Having a friend tell you there are jobs means squat.
