I just passed my RPN exam recently, it's not easy to find job right now, most of them are part time.

I want to try other province like BC or AB, does any one has some good advice about it? Is Ontario rpn license can work in other province, or maybe need some other assesment or exam?

People just don't understand how terrible the job market is in AB right now. It won't get any better for at least a few years either. Many cutbacks throughout the Province. Even if you're an internal applicant, there are few decent jobs. Unless you have experience in Emerg, OR, or ICU or you don't mind working rural, there's no sense coming out here.

None of the unit managers will take cold calls from outside applicants. They are just too busy. One I know hasn't done her yearly staff evaluations since 2011. No way is she spending time with someone she knows she isn't going to hire.

I remember back in the day i was goong to head that way. I stayed put because the market was going downhill. People need to do their own research. Research how to get a license . Research the job market. Google is a wonderful thing.

i got RPN license in feb 2012 in ON. But dt have job my nursing working hours zero plz can somebody advice me what should i do to get a job. should i move to AB is there more option

Where have been applying? I noticed its tough to get a job in the hospital as an RPN i started in residential care and home care. To answer your question abt getting a license in AB, yes you can change your status to an AB license if you go to CLPNA website there a directions on it. Good luck to you :)

Alberta is not the land of milk and honey. There are few enough jobs here that local new grads are still having problems. Unless you have a firm offer don't even think about moving.

You sound very much like a poster who has been posting on the same issue. Employers in AB will be very dubious of someone who hasn't worked in nearly three years.

Everyone's situation is different. Its a very lengthy process first of all. I moved to AB from ontario and had to study 7 more months to practise competently. And even after all that struggle i didnt land in a very rewarding job. Still working part time. The job market here is terrible. I wont recommend anyone going through all that trouble and moving here and then having to study more. I heard from a friend there are alota job openings in northern ontario and BC but not sure, will have to research on it !!

You must not be a Canadian educated nurse. We can move Provinces, further study is not required.

I was under the impression that LPN/RPN scopes were vastly different across different provinces?

Much of practice restrictions are determined by the facility and even the programme we work in.

BC up until fairly recently covered on the bare minimum to enable their students to write CPNRE. If the moved to AB, nurses licensed there were required to gain additional education in a few areas,

This is why the provincial nursing colleges evaluate you upon moving.

I understand the job market is not ideal, but I cannot for the life of me understand how people go years without finding jobs. Within months of graduating I had two jobs, and many other calls for interviews. Two of my closest friends graduated in December and both also have jobs already, one at a LTC facility and the other at a hospital.

I'm genuinely confused, because I don't know ANYONE who struggled this way.
