hi am currently 17 years and i want to enroll for the Registered practical nursing program which is a 2 year course, however, am scared no one may want to hire a 19 year old nurse! i would want to later advance my career to REgistered nurse and later nurse practioner however right now i needed to do the 2year course so i can have a better pay to look after my mum and myself and still go to school . should i do the two year program( registered Practical Nurse or should i just go for the 4 year course( registered Nurse) straight up? and would i find a job at 19 years as a registered Practical Nurse( this is my main concern)?

You can be hired at 19. Display yourself professionally and you'll be fine.

Specializes in Medicine.

I am graduating from practical nursing this December and will be 20 at the time. There are many people who will also be only 19 or 20 at the time of graduation. Legally, any employer cannot refuse to hire you because of your age - that would be age discrimination. You are legally an adult so I don't see a concern. I think it's all about how you present yourself in the interview. If you are confident and well prepared, and do well in the interview questions you will make a good impression and can be considered for hire. GOOD LUCK :)

Definitely gives me much more confidence knowing there other 19 or 20 year olds graduating, thanks for the help and all the best to you too @theRPN2b and @RN403
