any unit clerks out there?

Hello thinking of doing my unit clerk course here in Alberta, then eventually get my LPN. Just want to hear from some actual unit clerks in the area about how they like it. Pros and cons, any suggestions? Is it hard to get a job? Pay worth it? Shifts? Just anything you could think of. It would be greatly appreciated.

Pretty unlikely that there are many UC here.

Look at the AHS posting board for an idea on wages. AUPE-GSS

Expect to work shifts. Most new hires start as casuals. Straight day lines belong to the old staff with 15 or more years service.

I did my unit clerk, then Practical nursing, and now doing my BScN. I needed a job that would get me off welfare and support my family. I am in On so our wage is good but that meant shift work. Same as nursing start low on totem pole and move up.

I am a unit clerk in a hospital on a med surg floor. I love it very much. Its the reason i'm in nursing school now. Its alot of clerical paper and computer work, organizational skill and multitasking. You def have to get used to it

I am also a UC and work on a med/surg floor. Like any job you have your good days and extremely busy days, just make sure you are able to multitask. I just completed my 1st semester of nursing school and I can honestly say that working in the hospital has helped me immensely.
