Nurses Humor

I don't know if this has been posted before, but what grosses you out as a nurse?

For me it's blood clots. Especially from a delivery with a large EBL. The blood sits in the placenta pan and congeals. Bleh. Shudder.

Dirty mouth with the tongue fuzz and white/yellow/green/brown disgustingness on every oral surface. However suctioning and normal phlegm does not bother me.

Actually, the fatty pouch of skin is a panniculus, and it can be found in places other than the abdomen. I recently had a patient who was post-op B/L thigh panniculectomy- ouch! She was s/p gastric banding and her ability to move about freely was hampered by the fat on her thighs.

The things that gross me out the very most:

1) Hands down, sputum/snot/mucus is at the top of my list. I've worked in a lab for ten years and that is the one and only specimen I don't care to be around, ever.

2) Doing oral care on people who really, really need it- can't stand the smell and have to hold my breath.
