I must admit the one time I called in "sick". I hated my job and went out to look for another. While I was out, my apartment was broken into and the the police called me at work to say i had been burglarized. I quit that day before they could fire me. Luckily, i got the new job.

The other day I went to a local store at 3 in the afternoon and saw an aide that works at our facility.....well when I got to work I saw that she had called in for the 2 - 10 shift with a gas leak in her house....so I guess she was at the store getting "fresh air" in the CD department!!

well, I just called off a few hours ago for daylight tomorrow. I didn't want to go because I am in Ohio visiting my family, and I live in PA. I had 3 days off, one day on, and another 3 off so I don't see the point in driving home to work one lousy day. Anyway, when I called off, I told the supervisor, who is a friend of mine to state the reason as "out of town with a family emergency" She simply said she would write, "She's a lush and she wants to go out, get drunk, and get some." The way my job has been lately, I don't really care what she tells them.

In nursing school, this one student came to clinical late. His clothes were all wrinkled, he was a mess. His excuse for being late, "The headlights on my car don't work, so I had to wait till the sun came up to drive in to the hospital".

My girl child (21 yo) has finally learned to not waste her sick days on being sick...and now saves them for fun stuff.

Luckily she works alone in a cubicle.

One winter's evening, a student nurse colleague, who was not the best time manager, had not come in that day for his 7am shift. He pitched up at 10 minutes before 7 pm and bragged that for once, he was early!! He could only stand in surprise as all of us fell about laughing. He had genuinely overslept by 12 hours!

Actually worked with a CNA who requested Thanksgiving week off because she had to fly home to attend a funeral. Only problem with the request was that she sent it to the Adminsitrator in October!!! THe Adminstrator wanted to know, if it was common practice to schedule deaths in her country? No she didn't get the week off. But we all laughed for days, including the Administrator.
