Working from home as an RN with no experience

I was looking at various positions for RNs who work from home. Some are case managers, some do phone triage, virtual nursing etc.. Can anyone shed light on these positions and if experience is necessary?

Hi, I am not sure of your background, but have worked in home based roles in a couple of different jobs. I would not recommend doings so without significant "hands on" experience under your belt. Most at homes jobs are relying upon nurses that have a good clinical understanding of patient issues, or symptoms, treatments plans whatever, usually only gained from clinical experiences.

Yes, experience is necessary.

Even if it wasn't, do you think you could handle patients on your own- answering questions, planning care, deciding on interventions -all on your own?

Agree with PP's. I also want to point out that all of the 'home-based' jobs I know of have very strict and rigorous productivity expectations. These are not cushy (work at your own speed) jobs. It is usually not possible to perform these jobs adequately and carry on your normal household duties at the same time. Many of them have a piece-work compensation structure without any benefits, whereby you get paid based on the tasks/jobs you complete rather than a weekly salary or hourly pay. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

Well I'd obviously have to use my discretion based on the job description to see whether or not I could handle it, thanks.
