What do you do when you don't know what you want to do?

Nurses Job Hunt

Specializes in oncology, MS/tele/stepdown.

I know I am not the only person to not know what they wanted to do upon graduation. How did you handle it? Did you just take the job that sounded best at the time? Did you pick one of your many interests and hope it worked out? Did you pick one that might better prepare you for another?

I'm frustrated, and I know it is silly to feel that way. I work on an oncology floor as an extern, and was told today that if I want a job there will be one for me when I graduate in May. I like onco patients, but I have a lot of other interests, mostly of the more acute variety.

I probably won't have to deal with this frustration too much because I live in a competitive area, and I probably won't have an overwhelming amount of job offers by virtue of that. That's fine. I'm glad I may even have one! I just wish I knew now what I will probably know in a couple of years.

But I am young and impatient and ain't nobody got time for that!

Yes to all of those things! I think you take what is available and keep an eye out for the one you really want. The position you have now is training you for your next job.
