Should I get both ACLS and PALS?

Is it a good idea to get both ACLS and PALS? I'm a new grad trying to get into OR nursing, and I have ACLS, but I'm on the fence about whether to get PALS.

I'm thinking having both might look unfocused or redundant or something.

Your thoughts?

PALS wouldn't be valuable unless you are seeking employment in a pediatric facility/department.

I disagree. The OP has an interest in OR and if she gets hired at a place that does peds and adult OR cases having both ACLS and PALS could be very valuable.

that's my thinking too, ChristineN. I'm pretty sure i'm gonna get my PALS as well.

I have both. My reasoning behind it originally was because I had to take time off from work and I wanted to show that I wasn't 'letting go' of my career/not thinking about nursing. I don't ever want to work in peds, but when I went for an interview for an Adult OR job they commented that they were happy I had it, they had said 'it's always good to have.'

Plus, it's not going to harm you by having more.

I believe you should get it. Do anything in your power to optimize your chances. I too am a new grad and I will be getting my PALS because I really want Pediatric nursing job but will also get my ACLS. Good luck we new nurses have it hard.

I didn't go into OR so I'm not sure exactly what they're looking for...but IMO I can't see how it would hurt your chances.

So if you have the funds to spare on a PALS class, go for it.
