Preassessment screening to obtain interview--Pysch Nursing? bombed

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Just got a note from recruiter, really trying to get into Psych Nursing, had to do some sort of personality/assessment testing....answered regarding likely scenarios I saw during clinical and/or daily life, got back an instant not going to extend an interview at this time. I avoided most absolutes in the test (such as Always, Never) but am now wondering if I should have prepped beforehand? Kind of caught of guard and just took it instantly? any advice, I was really hoping to get an interview? Are these common tests, are there things to know before you take them? Just kind of threw me...

thanks!

Love, I know the sting of rejection is not likely something you were expecting so I offer you hugs for that. Consider, though, that this may be a blessing. I'm still a student, but in the middle of my psych experience now. I feel like an assessment like that is not just going to benefit the employer. It's also going to benefit you. If you do not have the fortitude for psychiatric nursing, you will quickly become a very miserable person indeed. If this is where your life's passion is, though, perhaps others in psych nursing can give you some guided advice to help you prepare yourself better. My only thought is you may look back on this 10 years from now and realize that this was a blessing.

When I was 19, I applied to be a corrections officer. Took the civil service exam and got best qualified. Thought for sure I nailed the face to face interview and background check. Then I got a rejection letter. Man I was crushed. But in hindsight, I consider who I was nearly 14 years ago and I realize..... Those inmates would have eaten me alive. There is not one single intimidating bone in me, and they would have completely railroaded me. I would have been a danger to them, myself, and my fellow officers. They made the right choice not hiring me. But it still didn't suck any less being rejected.

Do some soul searching and really decide if this is right. Best wishes to you ❤

Thanks, I am now even more determined. But of course will seek other avenues until I get that first New Grad job. Just a bit harder, as a 2nd career graduate with alot of life experience being booted out due to a computer's decision with some very neither here-nor-there questions. But c'est la vie :-)
