Nurses Job Hunt

Published

I graduated and got RN license in 2011, but because of some visa rules I was not able to work. Now that I am eligible to work I am clue less about where to start, as every where they ask for experience. so 2 questions:

1. Please advice me where should I start or what kind of job I should look for first.

2. Is there any agency which can help me find job.

Thanks every one !

Any help would be appreciated, thanks !

Thanks a lot for the response!

From where should I do a refresher course, and how long that kind of course is? Will that also include clinical or I can do it online?

I am in a similar boat. Though I was out of nursing for 10 years as I stayed home with my family. I recently completed a nurse refresher course, which included a clinical preceptorship. Now I am interviewing for hospital positions.

The nurse refresher course took me about 8 months to complete. That included all of the paperwork and filing with my state board of nursing. I used the refresher course through: nurserefresher.org It is approved by several states. Others are offered through local colleges and universities.

Good Luck!

Thanks a lot @Mumto4 !

Is the course all clinical or have courses and exam too? I am eager to know if you have got a job yet...

All the best !

Thanks again!

The course was self-study via modules and recommended reading. Then I had a written test. They sent a copy to me and the original to my BON. Then my BON approved me for a temp license. The number of hours I had to do for my preceptorship was determined by my BON. The clinical appraisal and worksheets were also turned into the program and after they reviewed them, they again sent me a copy and sent the originals to my BON.

I had heard how tough it was for out-of-practice nurses to even get job interviews, but my first interview was on the floor I had my preceptorship on. They liked me, but thought I would be happier in a different unit. So that director spoke to another director and got me an interview elsewhere. I start orientation at the end of the month. :)

@Mumto4 I am happy to hear that your are starting soon. Good Luck with your new job !!!

For me I am renewing my license and taking the CE every two year. Will it be different for me? I wonder, I am kind of nervous about the whole process. I am so glad I found you, who went through the same situation.

Thanks a lot !
