Home Health Aide/ Caregiver

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

hi everyone,

Just graduated May 2014, two months now. Am I allowed to work as a Caregiver/home health aide (non-medical senior care service) company with an RN license. Should I even tell them I have a license? I'm thinking about working with a senior care agency that does only ADL's and Caregiver type work for money. I have bills and I know I can't work in a hospital as a CNA because I have an RN license...due to liability reasons.

BUT....what about home health agencies (non-medical) that care for seniors that are stable and just need help with ADLs. For example, "Caring Senior Service" this is a real company. This wont land me an RN job because it only utilizes caregivers.

Anyone ever work as a caregiver with a non medical senior assist agency and you had an RN license? I'm planning to do this because it is hard to find RN jobs right now, but I can't get a CNA job in hospital...so this was my alternative. What do you guys think? I need money for bills. :(

Please check with your BON first. Your state NPA may have restrictions on this. It would be a shame to incur NPA violations that would imperil your license before you can even get your career started.

Why in the world would you hide the fact you are a RN? do not hide the fact that you are an RN. If you are intressted in Home Care, I am sure there are plenty of them that do take on RNs. I know our Home Care have MANY RNs working for them. They even get to work with our acute cases like many of our peds cases. You might just land a job as an RN for Home Care if you look around for the right agency.. There are jobs for RNs in Home Care for sure and you would be doing the job you were trained for and make more then a CNA/HHA would.

I would never not tell the truth to an agency you hold a RN licence. You would just be giving yourself greif over nothing. I understand you want to find a job but trust me a 10.00 an hour HHA job is not worth putting yourself in hot water legally and loosing your licence
