 Hello everyone.

I have not been coming here for long, but found this site very helpful so far.

I am a 32 yr old wife and mom of 2 very energetic little boys. I am about to dive in head first (I think) into my pre-requisites. Would someone please tell me if I am trying to take on too much at one time? I will begin with taking my nutriton in a mini semester that begins in May. Then go into my A&P 1 for summer 1(starting in mid may) this means my mini, and summer 1 will overlap for two weeks. and next my A&P 2 and life span for summer 2. Now this might not sound too hard for some of you that have already made it through, but not only am i going to be juggling being a wife, mom, and student, but we also have a roofing company, and rental property....YIKES!!!!!!!! I want to be a nurse so badly, but am i trying to take on way too much at once? Is this really possible, or am i just really out of my mind?

There's sooooooooooooooo many mommies here who came here thinking the same way and they seem to have managed it so far. With our support that is. :D

You seem to be strong, driven and brave. Great qualities for a nurse! Welcome to the world of nursing student! (pre reqs count in my book)

:icon_hug: Don't worry. I'm sure everyone will adjust and kids are resiliant so I hear. Remember not to project your guilt towards anyone else and interpret it as their feelings when it' s really all you. In fact you have nothing to feel guilty about! My best friend's advice BTW. They'll understand somehow (how old are they?). In the end all will benefit from this dream of yours Breeze. You deserve it girl!!!!!!! Go get it! :)

My kids were 3 and 16 months when I did my one year, very intense, LPN course, and they don't remember anything about that they didn't have as much time with mommy as they used to. They are 17 and 15 now, big strapping boys, who love their mother very much and are very proud that I am a nurse. So you go for it girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :balloons: :balloons:

I'm going back for my RN currrently and finishing my pre reqs this summer. I have class on Monday nights and my daughter has a baseball game on Monday nights. I was devastated, even thought about waiting to take my Mon. night class. I sat down and talked to her about why mommy had to miss her game (I have never missed a game in the 3 years she has been involved in sports). She completely understood why I had to miss and that it would eventually make a better life for all of us. She is only 7. She was 3 when I went to LPN school and doesn't even remember that she was neglected for a whole year :chuckle Kids are very resilant and understanding. We could really learn a lot from them. It will be a struggle, but very much worth it in the long rum. Good Luck and you will do fine.

sorry i havent been on lately...you all know about being pre occupied im sure. Thank You all so much for your support. It really helps a bunch.

Summerbreeze:

I'm 34, married with 3 kids ages 10, 5 & 2 so I know what you are going through. I work 10 hours a week and goto LPN school at night taking 16 credits this semester. I always thought I was "one of a kind" taking on so much and also at times thought I was out of my mind. Then I discovered there are single moms with kids, and one older than average student with 8 kids going through the program. Sure, your house will looking like a tornado hit it daily and finding time for homework is challenging, but you do what you have to do and you adjust. I don't recommend taking anatomy during the summer if you can avoid it, but it can be done if need be. What could possibly be the worst that happens if you try? and if you don't try you will never know. Enjoy nursing school. The exhilaration and sense of accomplishment when you finish will be reward in itself.

Specializes in Intermediate Care/Telemetry Unit.

No, you are not out of your mind. I am in the same situation. I have a 5 year old son and a 2 year old daughter. I just finished up ANP 1 and 2 while working 40 hours a week. My husband is a contractor and a part time deputy. It never failed that he would have to work when I needed to study for a test and the kids would go crazy wanting my attention. I would read them a book or play a game and have them start playing together then I could study. If you give them a few minutes they are fine. I start full-time this fall and it makes me very nervous. More than 1 class at a time, although I will not be working full time. I think we just need a support system and encouragement more than anything. :rotfl:
