I have a criminal charge that I forgot about!

I am a LPN and have been one for 7 years now. I have always filled out on all my applications that I have no criminal record and as far as I knew i didn't have one. It wasn't until one of the places I was working did an FBI background check on me that it came up that I had written a bad check 15 years ago and it was on my record. I was mortified! I had never plead guilty but paid all of the fines and the lawyer said it was never going to show up anywhere and forget it. I never heard about it again and it never got in the way of getting my nursing license or a job. The job that found it laughed and said that it was not a big deal but it still bothers me. I feel like the biggest liar ever! I feel like this summer when it is time to renew my license I should tell them that I was convicted of a crime because I was wasn't I?:eek:

When you pay a fine that means your are guilty. End of story. Your lawyer did not tell you the truth.

Soooo now I have been lying to the State Board of Nursing for 7 years. I didn't even remember all of this. You would think they would have said something about all of this after all of these years. So when I renew my license should I check that I am a dirty criminal?:uhoh21: I feel utterly horrible.

This would be worth a call to an attorney. Get one that offers low fee or no fee first consultation. Preferably talk to an attorney familiar with nursing issues. Check out http://www.taana.org , The American Association of Nurse Attorneys. Either way, you do not want to damage yourself at this point. So best to get expert advice. You can also talk to someone at the Board, but I would refrain from identifying myself at this point.

LovebugLPN... I cannot give you any advice except that if I would you I would find a good attorney... just to make sure that you won't get into trouble with State Board of Nursing in the future...

Call you state nurses association; they may be able to direct you to an attorney who is well versed in nursing issues. Do not ID yourself, and that includes blocking your phone #.

Thank you for the info. Do you know how hard it is to find a # for an attorney in the phone book? All I could manage to do is divorce my husband.
