desparately needing help finding a job!

Nurses Career Support

I certainly hope someone can help me! I quit my job yesterday due to a long standing illness that has come up again. I also have pneumonia currently. I quit the best paying job i ever had!! Now i need a new job, asap...but i have no resume, BECAUSE i've quit every job i've ever had. I've probably had close to 30 jobs in 6 years. Yes I know i need to work out all those other issues as well, but the most important thing is that i am the sole financial provider for my whole family. i need to have a job this week. In my area, that's not a problem, but I was working far away from my house, where the money is better...roughly a $4.00 per hour difference. I would like to stay closer to my house, so i thought if i presented myself well, negotiating a better salary could be an option. How can i put together a resume when the longest staff job i've had was 60 days? I've always worked agency, for years and years, i suppose i could highlight that area. can someone give me tips on how to word a resume? I've read all the resume tips in the other posts, but none deal with this issue!

Thank you so much for all help.

God Bless

I think before you go out looking for a job, you need to figure out what you want to do. And, if you are still ill, how can you work? Maybe a short stint collecting unemployment would be better than rushing head-long into another bad situation.

I have to have a full time job. My husband is a student and we have 3 children. My husband would have to quit school to get a minimum wage job, which would never support us. Neither would me getting unemployment. My problem is a psychiatric problem, and if I could only get a job and KEEP a job to afford to take the meds I need, I wouldn't be in this current situation. Unfortunately, it's hard to be poor and crazy, all kidding aside....

Several of the larger drug companies (Pfizer and Merck) have programs for those that are mentally ill and can't afford meds. I feel for you - believe me. I know those meds are very expensive and it is difficult and next to impossible to just quit them cold-turkey without side effects. I'm sorry for your problems. Would working agency at this time help?

My problem is a psychiatric problem, and if I could only get a job and KEEP a job to afford to take the meds I need, I wouldn't be in this current situation.

Let's see, you need a job to afford the meds so you "wouldn't be in this situtation" but have had jobs where you could afford the meds but quit them anyway.

You need to get your psychiatric problems taken care of first before you seek employment.

I am sorry about your situation. I dont think getting a job will help you. You have stated you had 30 jobs within 6 years. That is more than the average people have in their lifetime. If you get another job now, what are you going to do different? I think you have to work out your problems, which is unfortunate before you should seek employment. In my opinion, you need to seek help first; and then look for a job, that way you can get benefits to help with medications. Good luck to you.

I would like to explain something, as I feel I've somehow been misunderstood. I am the only provider for my family. There is no way around that. My husband used to work at a gas station. the money he earned in a week at full time, is what i earn in a few hours. Sometimes I am well enough to work, other times I am not. I cannot tell when those times are going to be. I woke up hearing voices the other day and knew I had to quit my job. NOT working is NOT an option. There is no program that will support myself and my family. Trust me, I have looked. I am educated and I know state resources. I have to get treatment and a job at the same time, that is the only option. The medications that work for me are in excess of $1000. a month. I have yet to meet a person who has that much money extra every month. I cannot make it, have never made it, 90 days at a job to get benefits. If i get medicaid, which now i can with no job. I will lose medicaid benefits when I get a 1st paycheck at any new job. That leaves a period of time with no medicaid and no employee benefits.

I had a steroid induced psychosis due to high dose prednisone i had taken for an unrelated condition.

Again, somehow I feel attacked (such a poor word, i don't really want to use it), because my post was originally about a resume question, all the extra info was just that, extra.

L

no one is attacking, but if you were an employter, would you hire someone who has had 30 jobs in 6 years?

[color=#ffa500]you have a unique situation, and i wish you well with it, but a prospective emploer's first concern is for his/her company. your work history is a difficult one to get around, and very tough to explain.

[color=#ffa500]best of luck.

I believe this is truly a unique situation and we should not come down on the obviously mentally ill. Imagine waking up and hearing voices. I can understand where it would make you decide not to come to work. It must be very scary.

You cannot care for others if your own needs are in such a shambles. Your psychosis is not under control, and although I feel for you and understand the desire to bring home a paycheck, maybe you should consider a sabbatical from the profession. Medicaid is here for people like you. You should take it, get your self better. Don't worry about the other problems, your health is important to your family. You don't want to have a complete psychotic break where you may never come back from. I think you should get to a mental health professional and talk to someone about applying for medicaid. :stone

I can't advis in this stuation, but I can empathize I can't get work either because of probie license. no place will have me so I cannot get off of probation. I need to pay rhe bills to and It is not getting done I need 4 months more employment to get off of probation. They all tell me come back when you are off fo probation. It's really driving me up the wall. I just went back to school for RN to give me something to do while I wait to get hired as an LPN. My past is killing me...... I could use some advise myself but I can't seem to find the right place to get it.

I would go back with a nursing agency. your schedule can be more flexible then if you need to take time off.
