desparately needing help finding a job!

Nurses Career Support

I certainly hope someone can help me! I quit my job yesterday due to a long standing illness that has come up again. I also have pneumonia currently. I quit the best paying job i ever had!! Now i need a new job, asap...but i have no resume, BECAUSE i've quit every job i've ever had. I've probably had close to 30 jobs in 6 years. Yes I know i need to work out all those other issues as well, but the most important thing is that i am the sole financial provider for my whole family. i need to have a job this week. In my area, that's not a problem, but I was working far away from my house, where the money is better...roughly a $4.00 per hour difference. I would like to stay closer to my house, so i thought if i presented myself well, negotiating a better salary could be an option. How can i put together a resume when the longest staff job i've had was 60 days? I've always worked agency, for years and years, i suppose i could highlight that area. can someone give me tips on how to word a resume? I've read all the resume tips in the other posts, but none deal with this issue!

Thank you so much for all help.

God Bless

I believe this is truly a unique situation and we should not come down on the obviously mentally ill. Imagine waking up and hearing voices. I can understand where it would make you decide not to come to work. It must be very scary.

You cannot care for others if your own needs are in such a shambles. Your psychosis is not under control, and although I feel for you and understand the desire to bring home a paycheck, maybe you should consider a sabbatical from the profession. Medicaid is here for people like you. You should take it, get your self better. Don't worry about the other problems, your health is important to your family. You don't want to have a complete psychotic break where you may never come back from. I think you should get to a mental health professional and talk to someone about applying for medicaid. :stone

I agree i would work on getting mentally stable on medicaid. also call your dept of mental health for help. you might even consider calling your state rep if you can not get help from your dept of mental health to help you your foot in the door. get stable. take the medicaid, food stamps, food pantries whatever you need to do now to get stable. once you have been stable on your meds for a period of time go back and work at an agency with benefits. after you have worked for them for a couple of years then look into a hospital or other position you are interested in. good luck.

no one is attacking, but if you were an employter, would you hire someone who has had 30 jobs in 6 years?

[color=#ffa500]you have a unique situation, and i wish you well with it, but a prospective emploer's first concern is for his/her company. your work history is a difficult one to get around, and very tough to explain.

[color=#ffa500]best of luck.

hi, i feel you are being attacked as well. in regard to your question about a resume. you need to embellish your positive attributes and focus on the agency nursing. no need to mention jobs that you have not stayed at ,as they would not be able to give a reference as they do not know you well enough obviously. not staying at a job is not a crime and you just are not looking in the right areas. instead of going for big bucks , try to go for a low stress job like a clinic or md office. methadone clinics are great for low stress nursing.

the nursing is much more fun than running your butt off taking care of everyone with no help on a unit floor. however, the pay isnt that great , but it is better than no pay at all. remember sally jesse raphael had 125 jobs or so before she found what she wanted to do. ( my sis shared that info with me not sure how accurate the info is) lol. good luck to you.

I would try to highlight all of my credentials. Like if you are certified in Basic Life Support, or you are apart of your local nursing organizations, that would be helpful. Also try to list you agency work. If an interviewer asks why you have never worked in staff nursing you can always say that you find agency work at the time to be more flexible and thats what you needed at the time. Good luck to you!!!

I would just like to say thank you for all the positive support and although some of the messages are negative, i do appreciate their opinions as well. I have gone back to the psychiatrist who has put me on Prolixin, Seroquel, Lexapro and Klonopin and I am going back to work agency. In fact this week i have already worked 1 shift with no problems whatsoever, except for the fact that I am a little SSSLLLLOOOOWWWWW at work. but thank you so much for the support and for the understanding!!
