  1. im the worstnurse to ask for positive feedback on becoming a nurse. ill tell you go into another field.
  2. Hospice is great work! You have freedom of being out on the road. Managing you caseload and being an AWESOME nurse at a most difficult time in peoples lives. A LOT more rewarding then the thankless nursing jobs in hospitals and nursing homes! 3 to 5 pt's a day, visit times vary based on situations. Doctors are great in responding if you fax them a request, MOST get what you need for your pt's when they have time to review the case, call you with questions , and are not constantly interrupted during their busy day seeing pt's, by the hospice nurse. The BEST hospice was in Massachusetts/RI, managed by an awesome RN. Had our own hospice Dr, have basic commonly prescribed standing orders. Also supplied commonly prescribed meds, so that cuts down on calling doctors. The main thing is being organized and having support from the team you work with. Hope that helps.
  3. Hi people, am I the only nurse that disagrees with " If you didn't chart it, it didn't happen?" Because from what I have witnessed on floors, is that if you are busy DOING things for your pt's, the truth is you DON'T always have time to chart it. I have seen nurses sitting at stations all evening charting they are doing things, however, their patients have not even seen their nurse! CUZ she is to busy charting she is doing things, that she obviously is not attending to. ISN"T that falsification? Lying, dishonest? What lawyer made that up? And what foolish nurses agreed that this is a correct way to document? When nurses are TOO SCARED to forget documentation, resulting in ignoring their patients, things need to change! I have seen urinals full, ( nurse is at her computer charting) pt's lying in waste waiting to be cleaned ( nurse still at computer charting?) Pt's bell not being answered ( nurse busy charting). When will this change so nurses can be free to TAKE CARE and pay attention to the patients??? My nn is a joke as i always chart at the end of a shift, and I DO EVERYTHING I can , while that pt is in my care, to make their stay as comfprtable as it can be. Someone needs to realize this and change it. I will start! With computers the problem is even worse because it takes SO long to log in, you hate to log off and on. resulting in staying at the computer to finish. Several nights there were actually 3 nurses at the desk ALL evening charting!! We had 5 on the Cardiac ( mind you) floor. Their pt's did not even know who their nurse was!!! They said t me, "gee I thought you were my nurse". When I was actually their LUCKY roommates nurse. So I did things for their pt's , because I felt so bad for them that they had no nurse to tend to them. But you bet your life they were DOCUMENTING all this work they were doing. What a sin, are we not better than that?
  4. I agree with steel city THE INSPECTORS CALL AHEAD . What morons!! the nurse that was abusing people knew they were coming and she went by the book. Just like surveys, they are pre warned and BINGO!! Staff is running around trying to make all the wrongs look right (temporarily) I say if ya do it right all the time , no need to worry!!
  5. That's funny that people are trying to sell you insurance LOL!!! I was let go for reporting pt abuse. They say you are protected against retaliation, I beg to differ. They would not even accept anonymous reporting, I finally went in person. Also, several other staff members were witness to abuse and they were let go or offered hush deals. The nursing homes are really bad. If it were to happen again, I would have been better off to beat the crap out of the nurse that was abusing people!! LOL
  6. hi, i feel you are being attacked as well. in regard to your question about a resume. you need to embellish your positive attributes and focus on the agency nursing. no need to mention jobs that you have not stayed at ,as they would not be able to give a reference as they do not know you well enough obviously. not staying at a job is not a crime and you just are not looking in the right areas. instead of going for big bucks , try to go for a low stress job like a clinic or md office. methadone clinics are great for low stress nursing. the nursing is much more fun than running your butt off taking care of everyone with no help on a unit floor. however, the pay isnt that great , but it is better than no pay at all. remember sally jesse raphael had 125 jobs or so before she found what she wanted to do. ( my sis shared that info with me not sure how accurate the info is) lol. good luck to you.
