Confusion in College

Nurses Career Support

Hello, this is my first thread on here. I hope I've started this right...so here goes.

I've been in college for a while trying to get my associates in pre-med but then I turned around and decided to go through with CRNA path instead of D.O in anesthesia.

This is my associates to date:

  • The classes I've taken were the following: English, math, intro to sociology, intro to psychology, A&PI, Human Dissection, Chemistry and a few classes as such as humanities and electives required by my college.
  • The classes I'm taking for my graduation are: A&PII, Statistics, Microbiology, a humanities class and required elective.

My adviser mentioned that I would not need chemistry II and that I should do the RN-to-BSN program. Thing is, I'm not even an RN yet and this is my final semester here before graduating from my associates.

Do I need to get my RN before I go on to apply to any other colleges? I've done some research but I'm still very confused as to what I need to do if I need to go on and do the RN.

I'm confused: You can't enter med school without a Bachelor's Degree and you can't get an RN license until you get through nursing school, not just get an Associate's Degree. It sounds to me as though you need to spend more time with your advisor to clarify your goals and how exactly to achieve them.

Good luck to you, whatever you decide to do! :)

You cannot become a CRNA until you have been an RN. And practiced as an RN. I agree with the above poster - you need to spend some more quality time with your advisor.

To be a CRNA you have to be an RN with a BSN and have worked in the ICU for a few years and obtained your CCRN.
