Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if there was any other career move that you wanted to pursue or what did you do as a career or job before deciding to become a nurse or student?

I was a CNA, but had thought of leaving the medical field completely and going into computers.

I was a lab venipuncture person on the evening shift with a BS in Chemistry. I applied to med shcool, but working in the hospital ( a teaching hospital) I decided I would rather have the nurses as my future peer group. One good thing about nursing, you can always find a job.

I am a student too. I was a bum for 3 years after high school and then managed a movie theater for awhile. I have to admit, that was a really cool job. However, there is very little money in theaters if it belongs to a small chain, so the company went under...I went on unemployment and enrolled in school. Four years later, here I am.

After I retired from the military, all I wanted to do was claim a nice spot under a bridge in Las Vegas. I figured with no rent, etc., I could live fairly well in a cardboard box on my retirement.

Then I got married and she flat out refused to live under the bridge with me. So, I started the trek that ended up with me as a nurse. But we did live in Vegas for 5 years, and I looked at what would have been my spot nearly every day!

My next career, or retirement hobby, will definately be food and cooking related....who knows, maybe off to the Culinary Institute of America or some other culinary institute for fun and profit.

I taught high school English for 2 1/2 years...absolutley loved the students but hated the job. It was too absorbing. I imagined it would be fun and rewarding, like in the movie "dead poets society" HA! I found myself plowed with paperwork before/during/after school hours, parents taking up for the kids left and right, kids not coming to school and catching them up...only to have them miss another 2 weeks, going to meeting after meeting, constantly reading classics (missed my ole junk book reading:D ), clubs on the side, collecting overtime and not being paid for it, and the neverending politics...oh the list goes on! I absolutely began to lose myself and the things that I enjoy.

So, I bailed out and do not regret it one bit!

Someday, I want to own my own small business...just can't figure out what kind!
