I write to you today, tired and wondering when I'm going to catch a break. Test after test , clinical after clinical- I feel like I can't catch my breath. Thehours upon studying during the late nights and early mornings are breaking me down. I have never been so physically, mentally, and spiritually drained in my life. But let me stop complaining, because this is just a season. Some days, I try to compare myself to a tree. They look as if they won't live during the winter, but just look at them during the spring. They have blossomed, matured, and have become what they are meant to look like. You know just what we have to go through, how long it will take, and how hard it will be on us, but you also know that it will help us to stand taller and become stronger.

Thank you for this opportunity to be in college so that I may earn an education. Thank you for the future you already have planned out for me. I may feel as if things don't look good now but I know that you have not brought me this far to leave me here alone. But I need you more than I've ever needed you, because I'm not able to do this on my own. I apologize for the times I've turned to my Med-Surge book rather than my Bible. I'm sorry for replacing the opportunities I've had to pray with thoughts of worry about my next MedSurg test. Please, help me to always remember to put you first and then after I do that, everything else will fall into place. You have instilled a desire within me to take care of your children, I just ask that you would make me capable. As I learn, let the concepts enter my mind, register, and stay there. I am amazed more and more everyday at your creation of the human body. Every bit and piece of us is so intricate and delicate. Help me to understand what our bodies are supposed to do and what to do to help a person whose body isn't working like it should.

I want to be a source of your light in my patients' dark time. Nobody wants to be in the hospital but let your spirit work through me to instill hope in them. When they say that they want to give up, remind me to tell them to keep pushing through, just as I hear you saying those same words to me during this time. I pray that there is meaning behind what I am doing, don't let it be for nothing, send me confirmations and encouragement along the rest of the way.

I can identify with you SimpleeBee, but my identification occurred nearly 30 years ago when I felt similar to how you're feeling now.

Please allow me to applaud your stance and your actions in your struggle! Gaining a perspective, rising above the turmoil in your life, and giving thanks for being able to pursue your endeavor is quite endearing! As the Beatles sang, "The love you make is equal to the love you take".

I sometimes feel down, and I have my own spiritual way to deal with it. I don't need Yahweh or the Bible for that. Thank you very much.

Please, whatever you do, be careful what you say to your patients. Please don't assume that they have "given up" when they choose to forgo further treatment. Don't tell them to "keep pushing through" You can't know their struggle. And sometimes, it can cause more harm than good. And sometimes, even though they might talk of giving up, they don't really mean it. They might just need to share their fears.

IF you want to be a source of light: listen to your patient. A gentle touch on the arm, holding their hand, some small gesture like that can mean so much more than words. If they ask you to pray for them, then by all means do so. Just please don't assume that they will appreciate your "light".

Lord, Please help her to know that you are walking this road with her. Give her strength when she is weak and rest when she goes down at night. Help her to take care of her body in addition to her spirit and help her to know that she has brothers and sisters in Christ that will pray for her, as we are commanded to lift up one another.

"I waited patiently for the Lord; and He inclined unto me and heard my cry. He brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock and established my goings."

Psalm 40: 1-2

Start the day with Him first, and you will go through it with trust and strength.

"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths." Proverbs 3:6

You do you, that's ok! Everyone has their own way of doing things and that's totally rad.

That's an awful, and downright untrue generalization.

You don't have to believe in the same things, that's totally okay. I don't have the right to tell you "Hey, Vetpharmtech, your beliefs are 100% wrong!" just because I believe something differently.

At the same time, you shouldn't paint such harsh, sweeping, generalizations when you've not met the entire Christian population. You can't speak for everyone.

Be good to one another, regardless of beliefs! Be a source of joy and kindness regardless of which path you walk.

I agree with allll of this - regardless of our paths, there's a time and place for everything!

OP, persevere. "2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."James 1:2-4. One step at a time, OP, one step at a time. (and, go easy on yourself for studying medsurg rather than reading your Bible. However, be sure to spend time, even if it's only 10 minutes, in the Word as it will help you as well as studying your text books.) Thank you for your transparency.

My husband, daughter, their pastor and many of our friends are all Christians. And they love and care for me regardless of my spiritual beliefs. When I have been sick, they have come to me and just sat and talked to me. Some Christians might have that mindset but I can tell you that it isn't true of them all. I live in the bible belt and I have been condemned to hell (which I don't believe in) more than I care to think of but I know that not all Christians are alike. Just as not all atheists, Buddhists, Muslims, Jews, etc are the same.
