L'shana tova! You inspire me to drag myself out the door. Put that on the positive side of the Book of Life for both of us.

Happy New Year!

My, what a wonderful response!! Thank you, everyone, for such nice wishes :)

Services for both Erev Rosh Hashana (night before, but literally the start of the Holiday) and Rosh Hashana Day One (all day Thursday) were delightful. Lots of singing and joy; I learned long ago to NOT be involved with congregations that don't have this feeling! Day Two, today, I don't go, but I'm looking forward to Kol Nidre (night before Yom Kippur, and a Biggie).

My hubby doesn't know why I get excited for the HHD, lol, but I just do :D

You can't describe the taste of ice cream on a hot day or the scent of a lily or the feel of a baby's skin. Kol Nidre and Yom Kippur are experience like that. And maybe migration of birds with that inexplicable, visceral pull to be together with community in these hours. Is it like that for you?

I don't know, really.....it's not a 'pull', I'm not "called" to it (lol on that topic!!) but I do enjoy the gathering of the tribe, so to speak. I like having so many people who are all there to experience the moment, to prepare for prayer in the same way.

The services I attend have an average of around 1300-1400 people; there's usually a couple hundred children, and that makes for QUITE an impact on the experience! I also am an active member, so I assist with setting up, helping with pieces when asked, like that, and it brings me even closer into the circle.

Until you've seen 1400 people holding hands and swaying while singing Aveenu Malkenu, you ain't seen nothin'!

Oh my gosh! I opened this thinking it was going to be another "Can you believe what she named her baby!?" discussions:)

ROFL.....love it :)

Because...tradition, things bigger than yourself, community.....all those important things. I'm Catholic and so sort of your spiritual granddaughter, and our cyclical liturgical calendar comes from yours. I also love the dependable return of each holiday and its traditions, as they mark the passage of time and the growth of our families in a memorable way. They give us the same stories and opportunities for self-evaluation over and over, but each time a chance to be new and fresh as well.

I understand your love of high holy days, even though I celebrate different ones from you. :)

Ironically, I'm late to morning services because of an addiction to AN, lol, but am running now! :)
