Unprofessional "Prospective" Employers...Grrr

The area where I live is notorious for prospective medical employers who don't follow up - whether it is an application or an interview. I have never understood the disrespect. That said, there may be a legitimate reason why you were not called. Situations happen sometimes that delay decisions. Make a followup call to see whether a decision has been made, and tell them that you are calling because you were told that you would be called on Friday. If they have made a decision and didn't take the time to call you, then is the time to get angry (provided that you aren't the one selected).

If somebody tells me that they will call on a certain day, I don't take it to the bank and I certainly don't cancel any personal plans because of it. If I'm off work I just forward my home number to my cell phone and go about my day.

I'm with Orca, I would call and explain you just checking because you were expecting a call on Friday.

I had two interviews and job offers last December. I was really torn between the two, but I turned down the one job where the nurse manager was late, kept interupting me with other things and didn't seem to have an idea what my experience was. Didn't give me good expectations for working for her.

I'd call them tomorrow "just to check on the status" of your application. (And yes, I would be a little irritated by the no-call-back-as-promised too).

If someone is that distracted during the hiring process, it raises serious doubts with me about the way they run the place.

I had that happen to me this past summer. A facility that shall be nameless kept me on a string most of the summer and when I asked to reschedule a day of orientation---a half day that would have been spent filling out forms and such with HR---I was told by the HR person that the administrator wanted to "think over" the job offer and she'd call me back the next Monday. The call never came. Nice way to rescind a job offer.

I was also told by the powers that be at a different facility that they would get in touch with me within a week about their decision. Another phone call that never came. Turns out they had concerns because I lived out of town. Duh---they KNEW that when they demanded I come on for an IMMEDIATE interview---I surely didn't relocate within a few days of my sending in the application and them calling me to interview.

No, I wouldn't want to work for a place that was so unprofessional. In both cases, the actions of the employers prior to hire was so inconsiderate and downright rude that I later felt fortunate for not starting work in either place. If they were going to be so unprofessional to someone in the interview/hire stage, how would they treat someone who was working for them? The place that changed its mind after I said I was considering going back to school---they told me they were willing to be "flexible" in the work hours and that if I couldn't make it in to work because of bad weather, they'd be happy to adjust my hours.

Yeah, right---and I've got some beautiful oceanfront property for sale in North Dakota.

BTW, the whole thing reminded me of my single days when a guy said he'd call and never would....

That's what I was thinking too. I've worked for a distracted NM and it stinks.

I got one better. Went to a networking gig at school. Someone in my alumni assoc took resume for teaching position. 2 weeks later did shift with RN clinical instructor who said she meant to call me. Another week goes by, my schedule doesn't fit hers for interview...that was Oct 7th. NO call back till Jan 5th. Go for interview Jan 13th, she doesn't show up. Calls 10 min AFTER my apointment about someone was suppose to fill in and she doesn't know what happened. I tell her forget it as it's been since Sept. I leave, call alumni person and leave message on VM.

THEN leaving get broadsided and have not had MY car for 3 weeks.

NMs and hiring folks can really be busy people. So, I would call and just ask the status of your application. One hiring person before said she’d call me on a Monday---but she actually did call on a Tuesday---I accepted the job and things were fine after that. So I wouldn’t judge just because the other person didn’t call as promised---this is not like you went on a date and you’re waiting for that other person’s call---it’s a job application afterall---it’s the one that will pay your bills if you get accepted afterall---so it’s okay to call and ask! J

I am fine, just disappointed that the person who hit me lied, and I STILL don't have my car. Had a few aches early on. AT LEAST the insurance company didn't TOTAL my car....so thankful for that.

Oh, I dunno; perhaps I am the Miss Cleo of the nursing world.

I am fine, just disappointed that the person who hit me lied, and I STILL don't have my car. Had a few aches early on. AT LEAST the insurance company didn't TOTAL my car....so thankful for that.

Well, do make sure you're okay. I was in two accidents about two months apart from each other---one time I was rearended and the other time I T-boned someone in an icy intersection. Don't know if the second accident exacerbated an asymptomatic injury from the first but I did require a cervical laminectomy due to a couple of herniated discs several months later.

Very irritating to be without a car, though.
