I just started a new job. I have noticed that the women nurses (not that guys have much choice) wear scrubs that are one color. where I came from, most wore print tops with a solid color pant. Does one look more professional than another?

Let me add.......if ur in it for professional look........then u wld need a whole new profession.........scubs r not cute, good, or professional looking

IMO.......it does not matter what u wear.........its how u deliver the care!! It's about ur job as nurse not ur fashion........although I will say ur attire/appearance should be neat and clean.

Why do do we always treat these two things like they are mutually exclusive...it seems like we have to make a choice between professional dress and providing great care. Well, it is possible to do both. I agree, that I want to be remembered most for the care I give (in the positive, of course), however this does not mean that I cannot have a professional appearance at the same time.

Completely agree. Professional dress does not only mean that you wear dress pants and dress tops. I think someone well groomed with clean nice scrubs is more professional than someone with tweety bird scrub top with worn out sneakers. Unless they are in peds of course.

I think solid is more professional, but I do like a variety. When my unit went to all solid colors I really missed the freedom of wearing what I wanted... nothing wrong with an occasional floral top. I agree with some previous posters, I like a print top with a solid bottom, just nothing too loud.

Personally, I like solid colors, preferably a primary color. Print tops, and especially tops with the little bow-tie string thingy in the back, looks like something a waitress would wear. Pink is too "cutesy" for my taste. I prefer hunter, navy, cranberry, etc. I really never see a female doctor wear a printed top, nor do I see professional women such as nurse practitioners wear them. The solid color all-over is not just more professional, but is also more slimming. That is just my opinion.

I have only saw one female doctor wear print. She would always wear her leopard print Danskos with black scrub pant bottoms and some sort of print top, usually animal print. She was an intensivist. She was very well-respected and very down to earth, too, so I don't think anyone cared lol.

We switched to solids, but I miss wearing prints at times. As long as they weren't cartoony or "overdone" I was okay with it. I like wearing a nice print top with a solid, darker color bottom.

As for the solid colors, I prefer darker colors. All white? No thanks.

When I first started out, I wore print tops occasionally, and I worked in the ED and in Tele. No complaints there. When I did start working in Peds, I had added a few collections, lol. Even though I work in a Pediatric Hospital, they encourage solid colors, so I wear solid colors, and wear print Danskos...
