I only read today's page of comments.

I did like this part of the article:

"Look, the only way to change things is through the marketplace."

We - the public - do look at doctors as Gods . .. .haven't we as nurses wanted to tell a patient to switch doctors?

There is a huge med error problem in America. Giving this message to the public is a good idea.

I don't like the bashing however.

I agree that we need to advocate for ourselves. I cannot believe some of the crap this guy was saying. He wasn't making any sense.

In order for the article to attract interest, he had to embellish the details and make most events out to be more sensational than they really were. Of course, this is my opinion.

I once had a patient and family speak to me about the upcoming open-heart procedure he was to have. Based on the recommendation of someone in their church they were going to have Dr. A do the procedure. They were all smiles when they asked me what I thought of him, now let me say, I wear my heart on my sleeve and am a HORRID liar. My face kind of looked like this Dr. A has a long history of high infection rates and poor outcomes, but I couldn't say this to this lovely family. So instead, I said, Oh, well he is good. But when my father in law had his surgery I insisted on Dr. B. They got the message loud and clear. Dr. B did the surgery 2 days later and the guy had excellent outcome. (Dr. A has since lost privledges at the hospital.)
