I have been a registered nurse for almost 20yrs. have had major back surgery and social security decided i am no longer disabled? go figure. can not stand, walk, for any long periods of time. lifting capacity is severely limited. of course it does not help living in an area that is limited with nursing jobs. any ideas? i do not have a BSN. thanks

I would appeal this. It doesn't sound like you can return to nursing, you may have to find something you can do sitting down. But I do think you have a case and should take this higher up the food chain. Best of luck!

Have you looked into doing telephone triage? Many nurse do this from home either for an urgent care, Insurance company or hospice home health. Other than hiring an attorney experienced in Social Security I don't know what else to advise.

Get one of those high-fallutin' disability insurance attorneys to go to bat for you. Sounds like this would be right up their alley. Good luck.

Be careful about the lawyer you choose because many of them will "work" on your case for years to get a larger settlement that will date back from the day you applied. And they get a percentage of that larger settlement of back pay.

Where I live, the usual is for Social Security disability to be denied on first try. It's expected.

I had a determination within six months and my first check via debit.credit card a month or two later plus a year back from documented date of when actual proof of disability was presented to them... it helped to speak to a case worker who knew what they were doing!

I live in Louisiana- I've applied twice and denied both times - the second time we used an attorney.
