Do you think that people with extreme mentally delays such as down syndrome should be given a chance to become a nurse? Why or why not?

What do you think? There are cognitive and academic requirements to enter many professional fields. Should academic and licensing requirements be altered? If an individual with trisomy 21 has the cognitive abilities to graduate nursing school with minimal accommodation for example testing accommodations that are also available for NCLEX and can meet the physical, skills, and academic requirements and wishes to become a nurse who is to say they cannot because they happen to have an extra chromosome.

I don't know if he/she meant it to come off this way, but it almost sounds like he/she is saying "Enough is enough…I have had enough of the 'special' treatment for those with 'mental' delays." I apologize if I am putting words in the OP's mouth, but this was my first interpretation of the title of the thread.

Is this a stupid question or what!

OP is starting numerous threads that look contrived to hit a nerve with respondents. Then OP stirs up the pot with a big stick.

Wonder what topic will be next?
