What's your favorite television series depicting nurses? Now, which one do you believe is the closest thing to reality? We all have different tastes so why is it that you like one over the other? Is it because you love humor? Or, maybe you just love drama. We want to know...

You're right. People are people.

And while I've only worked in psych for four years, I find her behavior to be spot on. It's a good portrayal of addiction, IMO.

London Hospital: I found it on iTunes, but go on youtube and all the other streaming services. You never know. Sometimes you can find free episodes.

Call The Midwife: Just started a new season on PBS. I like it very much though many an episode is a tear jerker.

I agree with you about Nurse Jackie. Nurses are people. People get addicted (to drugs, alcohol, food, whatever). We are human after all. I found Nurse Jackie's behavior alternately fascinating and disturbing. It is a real-life view into the absolute despair, conniving and sickness of addiction.

I saw a video ad for Nurse Jackie a week ago, and having never seen it, found in on my cable services watch-on-demand . . . I plowed through all six seasons and am now hanging on for each new episode in Season 7. Edie Falco is a total goddess of an actress. I absolutely LOVED her until season 6. She is the classic 'anti-hero', ie, lacking in qualities normally attributed to heros, and they were charming for a while. I worked in chemical dependency for a hospital that only took private insurance or cash, so I was involved with many nurses going through diversion etc. Most of them were alcoholics, btw, rather than opiate addicts, but anyway . . . the series has done such a good job of illustrating addiction, yet not sinking Jackie into a stereotype. I guess nurses were VERY upset when NJ came out six years ago.

Specializes in Emergency.

Watch "Getting On" (HBO) for some comedic relief as well as some painfully accurate depictions of medicine and nursing in general. That show has me belly laughing when I'm by myself. Highly recommend!

Nurse Jackie for sure.

Call The Midwife. Though, I've tried to finish the series several times already and I keep dropping it around the time Chummy returns from Africa. Maybe I should just read the book instead?

And by then you're hooked on the drama and can't look away

Now I'm addicted to Grey's Anatomy.

I actually haven't heard of Nurse Jackie. Will give it a try! :D

Here are some good old movies:

Sister Kenny. This is a true story, based on the life of an Australian outback nurse who pioneered a controversial polio treatment. She was self-taught, and had to cover a huge territory by herself, so she really functioned more like a modern NP. It is a fascinating and gripping film. Stars Rosalind Russell.

The Night Nurse. Interesting film about a private duty nurse in the 1920s who struggles to save her patients (children) from a murderous stepfather. It follows the young nurse through nursing school to her first job, so the 1920s nursing school was also quite interesting. Stars Barbara Stanwyck.

I know this is an older post but I will add some titles not listed yet. (Some are better than others)

China Beach (1988 – 1991); ANZAC Girls (2013); Nurses (1991-1994); Charite (2017); Nurse (1981-1982); The Crimson Field (2015)

I second Charite on Netflix. It has a second season set during WWII.

I used to love watching Saint Elsewhere. But that been gone long time.

St. Elsewhere is streaming on HULU

Specializes in Critical Care.

nope, make you want to pull your hair out watching them. only good ones are the real life ones, and not the re-enactments either but no good NEW ones out
