Nurses Recovery

Published

I needed advice from all the nurses in recovery. I just graduated nursing school with honors as a single mom. I have a felony drug record from 12 years ago and I have been clean for over 11 years. The NV board is allowing me to take the NCLEX so I am very happy about that. But I still have to go before both the Disability Advisory Committee and the BON. I am willing to jump through whatever hoops I need to become a nurse. But I am still so scared that after all this hard work I will be turned down. I have recommendations from teachers at my school to the dean and president. Any advice is greatly appreciated! And yes, I was honest with everyone since the beginning. The school knew and so did the hospital where I did my clinicals. I was VP of the honor society, a mentor to incoming students and even tutored in my spare time. I don't want what I did when I was 21 to hold me back now.

OP - that is GREAT news!!!!!! I am glad for you to have done so much, incl. going through so much in your life, and remaining clean, and for passing bosrds. You've come a long way, and I'm happy to hear that you have had such positive results in the meeting so far.

I am an addict, and have been clean and sober for ... well, it snuck up on me since I had to go to New Orleans in June for cardiac surgery, but today - August 15th is my 10 year anniversary for being in recovery. Don't know how that slipped up on me.

Please keep in touch and let everyone know how it's going!

Awesome!!!! Sounds like you're on your way. Best of luck in all your endeavors!

As of Wednesday Sept. 23............. I AM OFFICIALLY AN RN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much for everyone's support. It meant a lot to me:D Thank you thank you thank you thank you!!! The board followed exactly what the DAC decided...no restrictions. After all this time I am truly a nurse:yeah:I feel like this huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I have even found a job after moving to Las Vegas. I am working at a plasma center as a donor processor and in a month or so, I move up to Medical Supervisor (RN position) No nights, holiday pay, and I can spend each and every night with my son. God has truly looked out for us. My son had gotten me an Rn charm back when I graduated in May but I refused to wear it in case I jinxed myself. Now I can finally put it on. I love you guys!!!:redbeathe

Oh and just as a side note, I did not use an attorney. I couldn't afford one due to rent and groceries. But the Board still listened to me and read all of my recommendations. I truly believe God was my lawyer on this one. :redbeathe

great news

Congratulations! That's wonderful and you already secured employment! I know several of the nurses in Nevada's monitoring program up in the north are unable to find a job due to being in the program....and I'm talking nurses who have 20+ years in ER, CIC, ICU, etc. It's been a struggle for them and one that I'm glad you won't have to experience. Great news!
