Road to NMC Registration

World Registration

Published

Hello guys, here is my timeline towards NMC United Kingdom registration as of today (September 02, 2014). I just submitted my 1st pack two days ago, so as of the moment, i am still waiting for that important mail from NMC London, i know how hard it is to wait but just add more patience and we will all get there. I will also mention here some helpful tips that i've learned while undergoing through this process. Btw, i am 28 yrs old, currently working in a private hospital here in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

May 2014: (About 2nd week) i took my IELTS academic exam under British Council, by the end of the May, i got my score. We are all aware that NCM'S IELTS grade requirement is minimum of score 7 in all sub-tests. So luckily, i got what i needed.

June 19, 2014: I'm back in the Philippines for my 43 days annual leave, i took advantage of applying to some recruitment agencies (you can find a lot especially when you are in Manila), i tried to phone and e-mailed Greenfields and Aureus in Las Pinas. Greenfields quickly responded to my Queries but then they prioritize those with Decision Letter already, so they advised me to apply first then get back to them. On the other hand, Aureus is more accommodating, i personally visited their offices (Few Kilometers from SM Southmall) then i gave them my CV, luckily, their partner Agency in London (which is MEDACS) is looking for staff Nurses for Midessex NHS Trust, at this point, Aureus is not requiring a DL, as long as you passed the required IELTS and hospital experience, they will gladly accomodate you. After 3 days, Aureus called and informed me that their partner agency in London (MEDACS) will phone me any time of the day for initial interview. I received a call from Medacs, and immediately informed me that it will be the initial interview, she asked my about my nursing career, experiences and my ielts score, it was like a 10-15 minutes light interview, and she will tell you right after the converstion if you passed. So again i passed it and told me she will send the requirements tahts i need to submit like photocopies of passport, proof of address, Valid IDs, copy of NMC, qualification certs, police check, IELTS and references. And she also scheduled me for a drug calculation exam which you have to pass and get a 100% score (yup, perfect score, but don't worry since it will be an easy one, simple conversions, fluid regulation, correct dosages ect).

July 2014 : After passing the drug calculation and submitting some requirements, MEDACS finally scheduled me for a skype interview with the representative from NHS Trust. I did the interview at home, due to proximity (It is supposed to be done in Aureus office). The interview went well about 45 minutes, there were 2 interviewer, both were not intimidating and nice so im very confortable the entire duration of the interview, they will just inform you through email if you pass. After 2 days, i received an email from MEDACS on behalf of Midessex NHS Trust confirming that i passed the interview and offered me a conditional letter, btw, i already submitted my NMC application on June 30, 2014. I immediately prepare all the documents needed for pack 1 so as to avoid delays in submitting my 1st pack:

Here is the link for online form (for those trained outside Europe)

Here is the Information booklet in Registering as Nurse or Midwife (be sure to read this one)

Make sure to have those stage 1 requirements be certified (yes, you hear me right CERTIFIED!) copies of passport (page with personal details), birth certificate and registration certificate (like PRC board cert and Saudi Council Accreditation cert) and marriage cert if you have.

July 15, 2014: I called the NMC since 15 days have passed and i did not receive my 1st package, they asked me if i have relatives in UK so that they will also send it to them. i gave my friends address!

tip: check your local post office in there in the Philippines, mine was received by our local post office on July 14, 2014 but only delivered on August 05, 2014, i am already in Saudi Arabia, so make sure to check your local post office. Since some of my documents will be coming from the Philippines, i just sent my 1st pack by the end of August... and right now I am waiting for my 2nd pack... will update you guys once i receive it. Goodluck to you all

Hey :) Thanks for your time line. I'm an Aussie nurse and I've actually just come back from 2yrs working as a HCA in UK- I'm still doing the registration and it's taken me around 18 months to get my decision letter due to all the changes they were making/stopped processing for a bit/etc. Now my decision letter says 3 months supervised practice however they are letting me just do the new method of the single-day ONP and online test :)

But I wanted to ask seeing as I now need a sponsor to return to work there- are you saying you just got in touch with a nursing agency and they set you up with a full time job in the NHS? I didn't know you could do that! Any more info would be great :)

Hello there gen88,

Yes it is possible to get a job with nhs before you will have a decision letter from nmc, however, you will only be offered a "conditional offer" ....just like you, when i arrive there soon, i will be a "health care assisstant" as well while doing my ONP ( which btw, as i called the nmc, they told me i will be included in the current system which is onp, in ur case those who received a DL prior to september will have a choice either the onp or the new system, its ur choice to make actually) then later on, once i pass the onp and was able to register with nmc as a nurse, they will automatically offer me a band 5 nurse position. Try to find a legitimate agency which can help you. They will phone you, do the interviews and calculation exams via skype. Goodluck :)

Good day Promoking,

I just read your post and it was very informative. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us. I am also a Filipina, and I also had Saudi experience. I finished my contract this June 2014, and I am staying in the Philippines. I also passed an interview with an agency here in the Philippines (Omanfil for Addenbrooke's Hospital). I am also waiting for my second pack. I sent my first pack on July, but I needed to submit another copy of my passport that's why my second pack is delayed. Last time I called them, they are still not able to scan my passport on their system. They received it on September 8, but as of last week, they told me to call again this week.

I would just like to ask if you received your second pack already?

And I would just like to ask you, if you also observe that it really seems that NMC is taking too long to process our papers these days.

Good thing you are passed your interview with Aureus. Congratulations!

I will update you once I received my second pack, and I hope you will do the same.

Thanks in advance!

Is this for broomfields ??

Hi promking12! I'm with Medacs too. Are you with Broomfields as well? I just submitted my pack 2 today and hope everything goes well.

Is this for broomfields ??

Hello there, yes its with broomfields :)

Hello promking12,

I also called them today and they said they sent it last October 24, and at last, it is on its way to the Philippines. Can I just ask, how do you plan to accomplish the verification of registration from SCFHS?...I also still trying to figure out this step. And my main problem is I am staying in the Philippines, and I will only ask my friend to process it for me.

Thanks in advance!

They are honestly really ridiculous the whole process. If I were you, keep calling regularly. If you haven't received it within another week or so, tell them to send another. You need to really push things along yourself because they are hopeless! I've been told by some of the staff that it can sometimes take up to a week to scan documents. So they should have done that by now?
