Road to NMC Registration

World Registration

Published

Hello guys, here is my timeline towards NMC United Kingdom registration as of today (September 02, 2014). I just submitted my 1st pack two days ago, so as of the moment, i am still waiting for that important mail from NMC London, i know how hard it is to wait but just add more patience and we will all get there. I will also mention here some helpful tips that i've learned while undergoing through this process. Btw, i am 28 yrs old, currently working in a private hospital here in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

May 2014: (About 2nd week) i took my IELTS academic exam under British Council, by the end of the May, i got my score. We are all aware that NCM'S IELTS grade requirement is minimum of score 7 in all sub-tests. So luckily, i got what i needed.

June 19, 2014: I'm back in the Philippines for my 43 days annual leave, i took advantage of applying to some recruitment agencies (you can find a lot especially when you are in Manila), i tried to phone and e-mailed Greenfields and Aureus in Las Pinas. Greenfields quickly responded to my Queries but then they prioritize those with Decision Letter already, so they advised me to apply first then get back to them. On the other hand, Aureus is more accommodating, i personally visited their offices (Few Kilometers from SM Southmall) then i gave them my CV, luckily, their partner Agency in London (which is MEDACS) is looking for staff Nurses for Midessex NHS Trust, at this point, Aureus is not requiring a DL, as long as you passed the required IELTS and hospital experience, they will gladly accomodate you. After 3 days, Aureus called and informed me that their partner agency in London (MEDACS) will phone me any time of the day for initial interview. I received a call from Medacs, and immediately informed me that it will be the initial interview, she asked my about my nursing career, experiences and my ielts score, it was like a 10-15 minutes light interview, and she will tell you right after the converstion if you passed. So again i passed it and told me she will send the requirements tahts i need to submit like photocopies of passport, proof of address, Valid IDs, copy of NMC, qualification certs, police check, IELTS and references. And she also scheduled me for a drug calculation exam which you have to pass and get a 100% score (yup, perfect score, but don't worry since it will be an easy one, simple conversions, fluid regulation, correct dosages ect).

July 2014 : After passing the drug calculation and submitting some requirements, MEDACS finally scheduled me for a skype interview with the representative from NHS Trust. I did the interview at home, due to proximity (It is supposed to be done in Aureus office). The interview went well about 45 minutes, there were 2 interviewer, both were not intimidating and nice so im very confortable the entire duration of the interview, they will just inform you through email if you pass. After 2 days, i received an email from MEDACS on behalf of Midessex NHS Trust confirming that i passed the interview and offered me a conditional letter, btw, i already submitted my NMC application on June 30, 2014. I immediately prepare all the documents needed for pack 1 so as to avoid delays in submitting my 1st pack:

Here is the Information booklet in Registering as Nurse or Midwife (be sure to read this one)

Make sure to have those stage 1 requirements be certified (yes, you hear me right CERTIFIED!) copies of passport (page with personal details), birth certificate and registration certificate (like PRC board cert and Saudi Council Accreditation cert) and marriage cert if you have.

July 15, 2014: I called the NMC since 15 days have passed and i did not receive my 1st package, they asked me if i have relatives in UK so that they will also send it to them. i gave my friends address!

tip: check your local post office in there in the Philippines, mine was received by our local post office on July 14, 2014 but only delivered on August 05, 2014, i am already in Saudi Arabia, so make sure to check your local post office. Since some of my documents will be coming from the Philippines, i just sent my 1st pack by the end of August... and right now I am waiting for my 2nd pack... will update you guys once i receive it. Goodluck to you all

Hello promking'12

I'm a newbie here and I just registered just so to ask you some questions. Your post is very helpful especially for starters like me.

My background

I have a total of 6 years hospital experience from 2 different hospitals. Currently, I am unemployed since I started processing an application last september (to a different career) but something came up and my parents decided that I should apply to UK.

I took my first IELTS last 2010 to apply in New Zealand, unfortunately, that was the time they had an earthquake that destroyed a lot of schools(I was applying for a student visa then) so I just continued my experience here in Ph.

So now, I'm preparing to take the IELTS so I can apply for UK. The agency I visited only asked for IELTS and never mentioned NMC. I only read here that NMC is neccessary if an applicant wants to practice nursing profession in the UK.

My questions:

1. Do I need to be CURRENTLY employed to apply for UK?

2. I read that NMC can take months of processing, is it advisable that I look for hospital experience now and maybe work while I process NMC?

3. Does it help if I have a relative in London?

4. How are you doing with yours?

Thank you for reading my post. I wish everyone a blessed day! Keep trying and don't stop praying!

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Having family in the UK will not help with the NMC application. No you do not have to be working but you do have to have references from your nursing jobs. If you can find work that helps you up date your skills whilst going through the NMC process that will help you gain work.

To work as a RN in the UK you must register with NMC.

Hello xtin87,

First things, u have to sit for an ielts exam and make sure to get atleast 7 on each subtest (in one sitting), well if you already have nursing experience, that will be fine, it will be better if you will not have 12 months of employment gap. Right now, im still waiting for my decision letter. Goodluck to you

Hi i hav a problm that jeddah branch refused to sign my unregistered practice form as my registration expired in jan 2015.nmc told to get a covering letter from them mentioning that.Do u hav any idea whether they giv it. I'm outside the Kingdom .

Hi arya did u process ur form...

Hi promking12! Kudos to you for being able to secure your covering letter from Saudi Council.

I hope you can help me with processing mine. See i currently live in Riyadh Saudi Arabia and as you might have known already from all the threads here about the so called "Head Quarters" of the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties, it is very frustrating dealing with the people working in SCFHS Riyadh. So I'm planning to go and ask my friends in Jeddah to get that precious document. My application for NMC is under the new system (CBT) I already passed my Pearson Vue exam and now sent all the documents via courier to London. The tracking services indicated that it is already recieved in their overseas applications office. Now comes the waiting part, I'm not sure though if the Unregistered Practice Verification Form applies to the new system. If it is, Its a hurdle for me. I got hired here five years ago (April 2010) but did not get registered in SCFHS until December 2010. That is 8 months of unregistered practice so if it is needed in the new NMC process I really need to get it before my contract ends next month and ultimately leave the Saudi Arabia. Can I contact the Jeddah office in advance or fax them my papers from here in Riyadh and have my friends in Jeddah pick it up once its done? (fingers crossed) :) Please enlighten me Promking12.. Sorry for the long message, I am really worked due to this NMC process. It sounded much easier than it is.But I am way far into the process to back out now. We all need all the help we can get. Thank in advance and God bless!!

sorry guys, it took me so long to update you with my current status. i just got my dl under the old system few days ago. i struggled a lot, went through difficult situation just to get this dl. its a long story, to make it short, after complying with all the requirements, nmc suddenly close my application under the old system on the 1st week of april 2015. it was so frustrating bcoz they didnt give me clear reason on what went wrong with my docs...everyhing was vague. they even told me that may application was under management review, but he reality was it didnt happen. then i filed a complaint agains the international assessors , i emailed the complaint department of nmc, i got a quixk feedback that they will investigate my case. then after 2 weeks...bammm, i received my decision letter under old system. u know what guys, if you think that u have done everything correctly, fight for your dreams.. i won in the end. just be firm..dont let them throw or close ur application just like that..complaint department of nmc is neutral, they will help you if u think u are right

Congrats to hear that you finally have your decision letter. I have been following your posts on this thread and from the other threads as well. I also worked in Saudi Arabi and went exit last year. I am very disheartened to know that SCFHS Riyadh is implementing a new scheme and refused to sign the registration verification form. Glad to have read your last post. I've gotten this far to just give up. Thanks for the inspiration, all the best on the next step ahead.

HI!

I need help on this, I sent the same email to nmc but they haven't responded yet.

I'm a nurse from the Philippines which has 13 months experience as a nurse. These experience came from 2 different departments (hemodialysis and nursing service)in one hospital. These departments have different unit head and supervisor. I have learned that during the nmc application process they require 1 reference from a supervisor or a senior for 1 year and another reference for 3 months. Since I have a different supervisor (8 months for the nursing service and 5 months for the hemodialysis unit) I won't be able to produce a reference for 1 year from 1 supervisor. In this case am I not qualified for registration to nmc? Or is there anything else that I can do for this?

hi everyone! I am new to these NMC thing and I have a lot of queries in mind.

First, I am unemployed for 9 months now as I ended my contract in Riyadh, Saudi last January of this year to go home in the Philippines take care of my baby. I was interviewed and accepted by London Northwest Healthcare Trust last June by the way and just passed the IELTS. I am currently reviewing for CBT and don't have any plans of applying for a nursing job here in Davao. Should I worry of my huge unemployment gap?

Second, I haven't started gathering my requirements for the NMC yet and as I scanned the things to be done, it includes certified true copies of the certificates we got from Saudi. I am already here in the Philippines, and I have no clue as to how I am going with the process. Can somebody guide me through?

Third, I am concerned of the waiting time. How long does it take before everything can be done? Like estimate po? Concerned ****************unemployment gap ******. Like if there's really a need for me to work na.

I hope you can help with me concerns. Thank you po!
